I have the Dinan S2 and I can't justify spending $1700+ for the oil cooler & $1,800+ for the FMIC just to qualify for the S3 chip. My S2 already has 384hp and 421tq. I would have to spend like $3,000+ just go get to 398hp and 429tq. Thats only a gian of 14hp and 9tq! I would much rather mod out my car with a LSD or carbon fibor parts to lighten things up. I just dont think Dinan is going to sell too many S3 packages. That said, I do like my S2 chip a lot!

Alittle OT, but did anyone read the Dinan S3 review in the new Roundel? That might have been the worst written article I've read in a while. The first 3 pages was just drivel. It took him forever to make a point.

My car is in the shop as I type this, getting the Stage 2 ECU and the Oil Cooler (along with some other stuff.) I'm supposed to get it back tomorrow.

I've seen the oil cooler installed with the bumper off - it is huge compared with the stock version, but it fits in there nice - with the mods Dinan has in the instructions. I'll know more when I get it back.

I know there are a lot of Dinan bashers about, but when you see all of the details like the quality of the hoses, the rubber padding on the edge of the ductwork, and other touches you realize why you pay more for Dinan. It's still high-priced, but those little things give you reliability and peace of mind. (Okay, shields up)

Have Fun,
Rick

did you dyno? can you post it? I'd really like to see someone actually post before/after dyno's of the dinan software.

I think they make it out of recycled dinan badges, that's why it's so expensive

I love the Dinan quality as well, but the oil cooler would be way down on my priorities list. For the cost of the Dinan oil cooler you could get DPs, an intake system and still have some left over. The DPs and intake make a huge difference, and the oil cooler is really only needed if you are racing. My oil temp never goes above 250 no matter how I drive (I have the performance wheel to keep an eye on the H2O and Oil temp). I just dont think anyone needs it unless they track their car.

I would like to dyno my car, but i can't find anyplace to do it. I live in Ventura County (between LA and santa barbara), and I have been trying to find a shop to dyno it. I even tried going to Neuspeed HQ which is 3 miles from my house, but they wouldnt do it. Maybe I should ask this Q in a new tread...

My thoughts exactly....except that it better also come with a blowjob while it's being installed. Realistically it's costing them less then $300 to make that part, probably much less.

Who can blame them though, if people are willing to pay it.

I guess my priorities are a little different. There have been several stories posted here about 135s going into limp mode when they are stock - and every mod that increases engine performance will likely also raise the engine temp. For me, that's enough to go for the "protect the engine" mod before (or at the same time as) anything else big like an ECU tune.

But that's me - YMMV

Have Fun,
Rick

I got the car back this evening. First impressions on the oil cooler:
  • The installation is very clean.
  • Based on an hour or so of driving, the oil temp never got above 230 degrees F. and the ambient temperature was 69 degrees - much warmer that it has been. With the stock cooler I was occasionally going over 250 when the ambient was much colder. It's looking real good so far.
  • I didn't have a chance to track how long it takes the oil temp needle to move - I'll take note of that in the next couple days.
Have Fun,
Rick

We are running the Stage 2 software with the Oil cooler and that is already fast. So fast, we are having trouble stopping the car.

While the oil cooler may seem expensive, the shop that installed the oil cooler kit (BMS in Santa Ana, Ca.) was noting how much just the oil lines probably were to make. Take that plus the custom sizing of the oil cooler to maximize fitment for that location (See my install thread) and the R&D to do it and the warranty, and there you go. And it does work - we raced at PIR all weekend and did not go into limp mode once.

We're not paying for the materials. We're paying for the R&D.

dinan has always been over priced
but people always by it because they want to keep their warranty.
