3M Rubbing compound.

Who uses it?

I have a bottle that I never used. What is the best way to apply it and what should I NOT do when using it?

I don't want to overuse it because it is a micro-abrasive and does remove some clearcoat.

Let me hear your techniques.

I have some, and I'd recommend not using it, unless you have pretty severe paint correction to attend to. It's pretty abrasive, I've found.

Also, since it will leave swirls, you'll need to polish those out with finer polish, or two step (increasingly finer) polish. Always follow-up with a protective coat of wax over that, too.

From what I've seen, reading pro detailing techniques, you never want to start with a more abrasive correction method. You would start with a least abrasive, to see if that solution works, and then if it does not, move to a more aggressive polish.
