Car stalled on motorway...
Hi all.
So driving along and motor went into limp mod. Pulled over and it stalled completely. Tried to crank and it starts for a second and then stalls. Anyone had this issue? It's got a couple of mods but nothing over the top. Could a popped intercooler hose cause this? Cheers in advance |

Yes jb4 was on map 5 running about 25% e85. Got it towed home after trying to start it for an hour. Just started again once home after the motor had cooled. Wtf!

Yeah was meant to have my computer with me today but was in a rush and forgot. I'll do that soon but just thinking, if I have a leaky injector/s, could that also be a cause

I doubt anyone would be able to diagnose this one over the internet could be anything from an electrical issue through to a blown motor...
No a popped FMIC hose wouldn't cause the engine to stall IMO... Obviously check the codes, and get a decent bmw mechanic to sort her out. AFAIK when the injectors die the car runs but idles really rough and drives poorly (I sold two sets of injectors recently to guys who had dead injectors) may also be a HPFP... |

+1 Scan for codes, I couldn't live without a DCAN cable.
Not making it easy for us with the limited information provided! Not an intercooler hose Probably fuel related. Does the car idle smoothly then just cut out? Its not the immobilizer shutting the car off?

I've only had my car start and stall like that once before and it was due to a JB4 not being installed properly. It caused crank positions sensor (CPS) codes. Other than that, none of the other things listed above would cause the car to start and then stall.
HPFP complete failure, will still run. Anything broken or popped off on the intake and exhaust side, will still run. Injector failure, will still run. Definitely check the codes when you can. Might be a JB4 failure of some kind or the CPS.

Also, and sorry for being a novice, without the DCAN, does the JB4 interface show the same thing if I have my laptop hooked up with the USB? I'm assuming it does, and last time I tried it no codes we showing

Turn off auto clear, start the car again and try to read the codes after. |

I found those Bluetooth things not very useful for these cars. A lot of codes simply don't show up on them unless they are generic engine codes.
There is a lot of BMW-specific technology in these cars. I found a lot of codes that show up on INPA (with a DCAN cable) do not show up with the ELM327 cables. INPA is factory level software which shows not just the code, but the data associated with it such as mileage, ambient temperature. A lot of times the fault code is a bit useless but the accompanying data is clarifies it to a point where it pinpoints the fault. Getting setup with INPA is free but is a ton of work to get going. If you want something user friendly you should buy a K+DCAN cable combined with the Carly android app. Its not as capable as INPA and you have to pay money for it + extra for certain features.

If it is the LPFP that's probably your best outcome. It's a relatively cheap and quick fix. Just replace it with one of those Walbro Fuel-it pumps if you're going to be using E85. It'll let you go up to 100% E85 on stock turbos.
