The warning triangle is letting you know your attention is require for something. (!) Most likely your car is low on fuel. I suspect your fuel gauge is also your boost gauge right>? I think your car has a piggy - right. Does your tune hijack the gauges? When your car is low on fuel and the GONG goes off... you will get that triangle warning.
Btw... you would also get the triangle warning when its cold outside (near freezing), or IF you were low on tire pressure or low on engine oil, or many other things. You basically have to cycle thru the BC and see what the warning is for. That gizmo is for the headlights. It tells the AHL ecu the position of your car's suspension. IF its under load, quated or twisted. That way the AHL keeps the headlights level. This is what causes some of the wiggle/wobble/jiggle when you goe over a bump. There are TWO of these sensors(I think!?), one for the front and rear. ? Btw... with my tune (6MT) I have seen 6,400 rpms! It's amazing how slow 155 mph feels now. lol Ohhh... I just looked at your photo again... did you see your TPMS is on!!! Last edited by Dackelone; 08-24-2011 at 03:10 PM.. |

The triangle is a speed warning, u should have heard a beep when u exceeded a preset speed limit. This can be disabled.
By the way, did u remove the speed limiter on ur car. My max is 250 km/h |

I have taken mine off. So far the fastest I have seen is 274kph (Navi/GPS!). But that was at 6,100 rpms. I know I have gone to 6,400 rpms a few times... but I did not have my Navi (GPS) with me to know how fast that was (actual) speed. Btw... 155mph (250kph) on the factory speedo is "only" 240 kph (actuall) speed. |

True, it is an indicator for any warning, including taking photos while driving fast

Whatever the warning, that's pretty sweet mileage for an '08!

im sure its for the tpms then, since I dont have sensors. ill check the bc like mentioned when i drive it. yes, i have procede in my car, but havent taken the speed limiter off. long story, but im rocking my winter tires atm (which are only rated to 220kmh) so im in no hurry to remove it. I was on my summer tires when the pic was taken, which are Y rated.
Mileage is low because the guy i bought it from deployed twice, so it was a total of a year she never got driven. thanks for all the quick replies! |

Yea... I know, 180 mph!! SuperCar territory! I have read that some of the tuned 135i on the 1erforum.de say our cars can do 290 to 294 kph. I just have not found the right (empty!) Autobahn for those kinds of speeds. I remember the first time Nick and I ran side by side driving to the Ring... and he waved me to stop... bc he thought my hood was open! I called him up and said... YOURS TOO! Its just the way these cars look at high speeds. The hood starts to peel off. It lifts from the front edges/corners. I also will always remember that test driver from BMW driving that Factory Test car, a MonteCarlo Blue f10 M5... man was that guy upset that this little 1er could keep up with him all the way to V-Max! That was a fun race - all 100kms!! lol Btw... here is an old pic of my speedo before I put my flash tune on it. 155mph was really 240 kph (148 mph) via GPS. |

How is the car at that speed? stable?
What would you need to get it to 180mph? I would imagine that for the engine to do it safely it would be good to get FMI and bigger oil cooler? would a 12psi software tune get you there? |

The above pic was taken when I was still using Mobil-1's 0w40 Euro Blend oil. When I switched over to Castrol RS Edge 0w40 oil my oil temps dropped two (or so) needle widths (around 240 or 245'F).
With my flash tune I am running about 14psi (0.95Bar) of boost. I have NO TROUBLE getting up to 180 mph. As for stabilty... that is something else. As we all know the 135i starts to get "interesting at abou 110 mph (170 kph), then up too 250 kph it can become nerve racking. You just need a clear and smooth autobahn for these kinds of speeds. On the A9 between Nurnberg and Ingolstadt is a nice stretch that I like and its safe. Its getting harder and harder over here to drive at these V-max speeds. But it can be done. Btw... I have NEVER had any engine check lights thrown with my tune. Something someone with a piggy tune can say. And the engine just runs like a stock car - abiet with 380 PS and 520Nm of Tq. I love my flash tune - it just flat out works. No errors, no codes thrown, no driveability problems. And the engine starts up every time. |

What flash tune are you running? (sorry for hijacking the thread)
I'm a little surprised that it gets interesting after 170kph, I have a passat V6 08 right now and it is rock solid till about 200kph, never interesting up to 250 top speed, it does move a little since it has a soft suspension. I would imagine the 135 to be more stable than the passat with the firmer suspension. Have driven many audi's and VW at 240 and all where preety solid at that speed. the exception being the Q5, that does get a little nervous after 200kph but it is an SUV after all. |

I have a tune from www.MS-tuning.de 380 PS and 510Nm, its their stage two. I do not have any other engine mods. At some point I want to replace my mid pipes and do a FMIC. What makes things interesting with the 135i is its suspension. Or lack of there of. At high speeds when you go over a bump or hill or dip... when teh suspension loads and unloads... it feelsl like the toe changes. It is a very weird feeling when it happens at speed. I def feels like the front end wanders some - as the wheel geometry changes. I think part of it is also the short wheel base of the 135i. I've driven a M3 and it doesn't behave like the 135i does at speed. I have also driven MANY other cars over 200 kph. Shall I say many over 250 kph - and I never felt the toe change like I do with the 135i. I use to own a Porsche 944 Turbo taht I drove up to 286 kph (speedo showing) and that car felt rock solid at speed. Btw... I have had my car's alignment checked and one of the rear wheels toe was out slightly. I had it adjusted and it helped somewhat. But I think it is just the nature of the (135i) beast. I am curious IF the 1M has this same (wandering)issue. ? |

I'm curious how a set of M3 front bits (+ sways) and a set of good non-RFT tires would help with the wandering due to the stiffer sways and stiffer bushings. Over a decade or so ago, the state of Montana officially changed its' speed limits on the interstate to "Reasonable and Prudent" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_l...le_and_prudent Sadly, it has now been changed

I have the stock suspension. The only other mod I have done is I have replaced the Dunlap OEM RFT tires with Michelin PS3's in 225/255's size. The slightly larger tires on factory wheels did help the cars handling at high speeds. Especially the fronts - that toe change seemed to be not so nerve racking with the new tires. That could have been from the alignment wihich corrected the LR tire's toe out. But still... when you go over dips or bumps at really high speeds (120 mph plus) you have to be alert. I suspect the M3 suspension bits wll get rid of 90% of this problem. But I think some of it is due to the car's short wheelbase. BMW's ain't no Porsche's that is for sure! I did not know Montana got rid of its safe and prudent no speed limit. I guess too many Germans coming to visit over there! lol I remember that imfamous story when 16 MB engineers got pulled over(testing some new MB models) by a cop when that law first came out. They were all driving at 120 mph. lol They all got tickets. |

Kind of off-topic, but I hear a lot of talk (in this thread, and others) about the 1-series short wheelbase being a player in the chassis's lack of "finesse" at times. I don't recall reading much, if anything, about the E46 chassis cars in this regard and yet the wheelbase on those cars was only marginally longer than the 1-series. Does that extra 2.8" really make that much of a difference?

The F20 is supposed to have a 30 millimeters (1.18 inches) longer wheelbase, a 51 millimeters (2 inches) wider front track, and a 72 millimeters (2.83 inches) wider rear track. That should make it a little more stable at 155 MPH+.
