I finally got around to cleaning up the car and shooting some pics.

Things to note:
  1. You can click on any of the shots for a larger version.
  2. I'm not a Professional Photographer (this should be obvious).
  3. I'm not a Amateur Photographer (this too should be obvious).
  4. My camera isn't that good.
  5. All I had to edit these was Windows Photo Gallery.
  6. It took me 15+ hours to prep, polish and protect the paint to get it to shine like this.
  7. It poured rain on the car after having it like this for only 12 hours.
  8. I LOVE THIS CAR!

Excellent detailing Jason, your 1 looks awesome!

I hope the severe weather was not to severe for you? We are without power with no idea when it will come back on.

Again, great looking ride!

Thanks Jeff!

Actually, it was pretty severe, but we didn't lose power. I was coming back from Woodward when the storms hit Saturday night so the finish didn't stay perfect; however, the whole point of spending all of the time on it was to prep it for when it gets dirty. More than likely I'll hand wash it again later this week and then use the spray-on finish to make it even shinier.

My detail job consisted of the following:
  • Zaino car wash
  • Zaino clay bar w/fresh car wash as lube
  • Zaino car wash
  • Norton LiquidIce paint correction
  • Zaino Z2 polish/wax
  • Zaino Z2 polish/wax
  • Zaino Z5 polish/wax
  • Griot's Carnauba wax (hood only)
  • Zaino car wash (wheels)
  • Mother's wax (wheels)
NOTE: Norton LiquidIce was applied with a Porter Cable orbital polisher. All Zaino products were applied with the applicators that they sell on their website and microfiber towels were used to wipe off all of the above.

The reason I applied Griot's wax on the hood was because it was my first time using Zaino and wanted to make sure it was worth it after it sees some elements. Thus far, I see absolutely no difference in the world and it's holding up great!

There are still a few imperfections in the paint that I couldn't get out myself and I'm considering paying a professional to get them out. They're not horrible and can only be seen in certain situations, but they do bug me. IF I have this done, I'll reapply the entire Zaino system when it's fixed (believe it or not this is the easiest part of the process). If I don't, I'll definitely continue to build on the current base that's already on the car.

FYI ~ this really did take 15 or so hours. I do work pretty slow, but to do this right I would definitely leave an entire afternoon and early-evening open.

Hope this helps!

Alright people, I don't want things to get too off-topic and forget about the get together on August 2nd...

Any suggestions on what to do? If you guys want to leave it in my hands to make the decisions I don't mind doing so; however, I was hoping to get SOME input so people actually like what we do...

Do you guys (and ladies) want to do a dyno day? Indoor karting? Definitely dinner, but where? And I'd highly suggest we make our way out to Woodward and watch people act like maniacs, but this will be later (I'm guessing 8:30 PM at the earliest).

I'm up for anything so let's hear some ideas!

Also, if those of you who are interested could simply post or PM me to let me know so that I can start a list please do so!

Thanks!

Well, my suggestion is to wait until my 135i comes in sometime in mid-August.. THEN we can have a meet.

Since this is my first post, I should thank jtsherri for convincing me to buy a 135i and sell the STi and also FreeBMW for reinforcing how great the car is.

Order was finalized today

135i | Alpine White | Coral Red | Gray Poplar | Sport Package | 6 Speed Manual | Heated Seats | Carbon Fiber Spoiler

I'd put it off, but it's already been incredibly tough to find a day that everyone could make... On a good note though, my car showed up slightly earlier than originally estimated so maybe yours will too.

Either way, you'd better be at the get-together, congrats on the order and welcome to the SEMI 1er gang!

I will not have my 1 in country for Aug. 2nd but I am up for anything for the G2G. It can be as simple as over the 1's before dinner in Royal Oak and then head over to Woodward.

When I'll see my 1
Harms with get my 1 on July 5 after ED to get it ready for the boat ride over. Once it hits NJ it may be diverted to SC for PCD. I've been told it could take approx. 10 weeks for the 1 to show up in SC. This puts me out to the week of Sept 14th before I can pick up the 1 in SC. I guess I better have snows ready .

We'll definitely have some time scheduled after we finish dinner to check out everyone's cars. If we eat someplace in Royal Oak we could potentially take over part of the top floor of the parking garage, which could also make for some cool pics.

And no worries on getting the car that long from now, Jeff - it's well worth the wait! Not to mention you're doing PCD, which is effing cool! Push the snow tires out to the last minute... in September the car's going to be making some good power with the nice, cool air!

Congrats, jtsherri.
Car looks awsome. I wish I could afford red leather.

Everyone,
I came across this. Has anybody driven on this road?

I'm also starting a thread on this. Where's your favorite drive for your 1?

This looks badass. I've heard the drive over to Hell, MI is pretty damn awesome too. If I ever find an open weekend I may have to venture out that way...

Welp, I've put 500 miles on it in a week and don't wanna keep piling miles on it so cleaning it is the next best option.

Hey Lili,

Glad to have you back.

We also lost power on Sunday but we got it back Tuesday evening. Your area of the township must have really taken a beating.
