Coffee + 6MT = P.I.T.A.
I am a habitual coffee drinker and can't stand the placement of the cup holders in the e82 (non iDrive). Does anyone have suggestions on an aftermarket solution or do I need to cut into my console and install the iDrive cup holder?

I don't know what the non-idrive cupholder looks like, but do you have this cupholder on the side? It was already in my car when I bought it used. It's a 2009. It matches the interior. I found what appears to be it on ECS' website.
Is this the iDrive cupholder that you're talking about? I'm guessing that is what you mean by cut in to the console, since it says it requires modification. http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-128...3.0l/ES242691/ |

the cupholder above is known to fail over time. that middle flap has a spring that becomes loose.

You only get that extra cup holder when you order a "priority 1" option(s).
Priority 1 options are not listed on brochures or configurators for US consumption, think of it as an “Individual Program” offered in Europe especially and where almost anything can be customized or changed. There are many Priority 1 options offered in the US across the BMW line-up. Priority 1 usually means that the vehicles was customized for a specific buyer as a “sold” car.

Maybe change how you are griping the shifter to shift gears? Sure, the cup holder location isn't optimal (especially the one under the arm rest, which makes no sense), but I rarely have issues with drinks getting in the way, and I am an avid soda drinker.
The Germans were never keen on cup holders in their cars, so they are not at the top of their list of priorites in their cars. |
