Don't forget about the keyed lock for the trunk and the extra 12v port under the ash tray cover on the early models. The owners of newer 1er's always tend to notice these little things on my car. I just wich the M-sport package was available in '08 so I could have had the anthracite headliner.

Since we're getting into the minutia, just FYI that the ashtray cover and 12V outlet are back for MY13 (i.e. the "smokers kit")

This article speaks the truth, even without me driving the 135is! Just purchased an f30 sight unseen and traded my e90. That was the most disappointing drive home, save the mpg 35mpg avg! Who ever thought a 3 series would be unsporting? Its become an amazing commuter though, and luckily this purchase was for the wife....

Blame Lexus

BMW has always wanted their sales. Until that earthquake they were spanking everyone. Wanna sell more cars? Make them more Lexus like. The funny thing is that Lexus is trying to make their cars more like BMWs. Face it, even the 2 series won't save us. Worse, there is really nothing else to move to. Audi is probably the best for the money, but they still don't drive like the older raw BMWs. My 2 cents.

You have to think Toyota and Subaru are fairly chuffed with the buzz surrounding the FR-S and BRZ. Imagine if they upsized it slightly, gave it a little more power (lets say 225HP, 170 lb/ft torque with a revised NA engine) adorned it with a better interior to compete in the $35-40K range, but kept the weight down to 3,100 lbs. and retained all the important elements (RWD, low center of gravity, slick controls, etc.) If you forget about brand and image, that sounds an awful lot like a BMW circa 15 years ago. If it didn't look too boy racer, I'd certainly be interested. Maybe it could be the new Celica or that slick Subaru coupe shown at the NY Auto Show.

I dont understand how can anybody say f30 is not a good car, or not drivers car. I had e46 e90 and now very satisfied owner of f30. I agree styling, cruise control, and few little details could be better, BUT f30 is better car overall. To me e46 was the most beautiful exterior and i loved the dashboard tilted towards driver. E90 was more modern, drove better, I loved the handling on it and circled angel eyes I didnt like the f30 for the first few days. It feels a little cheaper as far as materials. But i realized its 21st century and we need to make lighter cars and manufacturing changing. The engine in 328i is amazing. Anybody who drives with me compliments it and its transmission. I cant say I like steering on comfort, but then again I change to sport and car literally change to a beast! This car has it all. Not even talking about gas mileage. I went from 16 to 22mpg. It is supposed to be a daily driver, not a track car. I dont think I would consider different car. Well, I would, I want e36 m3, e46 m3 e92 m3 and f80 m3 haha ... Now to this thread main point. I drove that 135is and I was scared of myself what would I do with it. Its simply rocket glued to the road ! I love every single BMW ever made! Okay, okay. except 5 GT.

235i or M2, should be naturally aspirated engines, whitout turbos, intecooler etc weight save is about 40kg (about. 80lbs) . If necessary put electric motor on back axel and co2 emissions looks good also.

I luv my 135i with ppk and DCT. Manual might be more involved, but I have to live with city traffic.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I agree with YOU. When I was a kid, I was at the DMV ready to go on my 16th birthday to get my license. I even took a day off of school to do it. Driving meant freedom and independence to my generation. The quality of that drive then became important as I gained experience on the road.

Today, my 16 year old could care less about driving or getting a car. Her socializing with friends, outside of school, is in large part virtual. That trend is generational on a global scale.

E36M Pics

I'll get to them this weekend. I actually don't have anything on file, and I need to give it a rinse...The stock seats are actually back in since my shortish wife had terrible visibility with the SRDs and was using the car...She made me pull them. After searching for too long for a decent way to lift the driver's seat, I am opting for a cushion...(Duh!).

The stock seats are in very good shape since they were out of the car for several years. Everything else looks pretty clean for 16.

I'm not sure where to post them since I don't recall seeing an E36 forum (!) Guess I'll put a link in the media page and let you know.

Good to know that was brought back as an option. The extra 12V outlet is always useful.

Same here. I was waiting outside the DMV before they opened on my 16th birthday. It was all about the freedom and independance with me too, which makes me wonder when exactly did the younger generation(s) stop caring about that? It's hard to believe that social networking and the latest app for your smart phone is more appealing to the younger crowd these days.

I think you can swap it out later if you wanted. I recall seeing a DIY thread about it at one point.
