I really like both but would choose the Cayman R most likely.

Chris Harris is a great journalist! Good sense of humour and a good driver as well.

The 1M looks fun!!

1M or Cayman it depends.

As a weekend warrior and lots of trackdays the cayman. But it has to be a second or third car.

1M is daily useable. Massive fun and also a lot cheaper.

Its funny how when the M3 gets beat in a straight line by cars like the C63 they always use the excuse "lets see what happens in the twisties" but when they put down the 1M they say "but the M3 is faster in the 1/4 mile/0 - 60"... Which may or may not be true.
When I got an e36 M3 the e30 folk said it wasn't a true M because it had a Us Spec straight 6--parts bin car.

When I got a e46 M3 the e30 & the E36 folk said it wasn't a true M --too big

When the New M3 came out the e30, the e36 & the e46 folk said it wasn't a true M ( 8 cylinders)

Now our cars are not true M cars. Parts Bin cars (from the M3)

This seems to be the way of the world.
They are all M cars--they are all great cars-- they are all different.

So everybody -Just relax and enjoy your cars.

PS- I don't know any M3 owners getting a headache from the 1 M....If you can afford an M3, there is no reason to buy the 1 M over it, the M3 is better in everyway[/QUOTE]

Actually I could afford both. But for me the M3 was too big. Thats my choice -- You can have your choice. At any price it was too big. In size it reminded me of the 5 series my mom drove before she died at 95. too big, too big for me.

That doesn't mean it isn't the perfect car for you.

How about a lightly used cayman r vs. 1M around the same price point?

Not true at all. There are several people who can afford m3's here. As you said, they're all different cars.

See the post that points out I messed up the quote. I was trying to quote what you quoted. The hazards of cut and past and inattention to detail.

As a second or third car i see no problem.

As an only car always go for a 1M. I have a GT3 also very nice car but as a everyday car. It s no go. Same goes for a Cayman R.

Haha. That's why the two posts are discordant.
