I am in a pickle :< AUDI TTS or 135i coupe?

Alright Lads, been on the forum watching as you all get your cars!

got a call at the weekend from BMW, who have told me that due to the credit crunch my car wont be built at the end of November or December for that matter!! as the factory will be closed!

My order has now went from a FEB delivery to possibly end of March, start of April. GUTTED.

So off i pop to look for 135i's that are sitting on lots, i stumble past an AUDI delear and take the TTS out for a test dirve..

all i can say is, OMG!! Its rapid, totally planted to the road (similar to the beemer) only problem is its not as functional as the BMW.

however i am not planning on having kids in the next few years, and the car is for me and the wife to tear about in...

Has anyone else had a look at these? If so what are your thoughts?

do you think the tts would be a bit more exclusive than the BMW?

will it hold its value?

I have managed to negotiate the guy down to $95k drive out the showroom, which is $10k more than the BMW

I am wondering though, am i getting $10k's more car for the money??

help..... :iono:

TTS; Better looks, similar performance (due to much lower gearing than 135), more money, less seats, more exclusive IMO. Hard choice?
Though I think the TTS is a much better looker, I prefer that the 135 doesn't stand out as much and make me look like the middle aged boy racer that I actually am...

latest wheels mag reviews both. 135i is the pick.
tts is just an over worked golf gti, i think that motor must be at its limits by now, its tuned to death. you can bargain down 135i's with auto and sunroof to 80k at some dealers drive away.

If I had my time over I'd still get the 135.

The Audi 4cyclinder is a noisy, diesel like four banger - sounds crap!

Its probably easier and safer to chip the BMW engine and get a sizable performance boost compared to modifying the Audi.

I know a person who sold her TT for a 3. Now she wants a 1. Need I say more???

The question is, can you handle what you have now till the 1 gets here. Maybe you can find a short term lease of a 3?

Good luck... I would hate to be in your shoes and not get the 1 you want when you want it!!! I hated waiting for the 1. I still remember the day I got it...

I say this as a non-car person, the 1 keeps me smiling every single day. I was happy with a Carolla. I love my 1. I don't think I would be happy with a TT. I tried 9 different cars before I picked this. I actually do not know of any1 in this forum who has sold their 1 because they did not like it. Let me comment the only 1's I know that sold were because of BMW and their 1 was lemon-ish and the dealership was not able to fix things properly so they bailed. And actually I don't blame them. Having a 1 that doesn't do what it's supposed to do would drive me crazy. So the car as far as I can see is AMAZING! If the TT did it for you, just imagine what a 1 will do for you. I wish you all the best in your decision. Hopefully this helps.

TTS Vs 135i

Hey Guys,

TTS felt more like Porsche the way it handles, not sure if that was down to the magentic damping thingy it has.

straight line perfromance probablly not allot of differance between them both and if anything i think the TTS may have a bit more useable power as its a blown four..

i do agree though that its a pumped up golf gti, however the fixtures and fittings in the car looked very nice.

the one thing i am having an issue with is that it looks like a Sports car, and is dfferant to the normal TT's . Having said that pretty much every 125i I see has the M-sport body kit on it which kind of dillutes the impact of the 135i IMO.

In spite of all this i still love the 135i, the TTS has knocked me a little though as i think that they are very comparable.

Just need to bite the bullet on one i suppose.

thanks for all your feedback guys.. i knew it would be slightly skewed towards the BMW!!!

Test drove the TT before I ordered my 1. It was a great car, hands down winner in the design/look factor. Useless back seat, but more user friendly boot as it is a hatch.

Feels much more sporty inside, but lacks the build quality of the 1. I hated the 'burp' it made on gear changes. Steering was much lighter too, not necessarily bad or good. Problem mostly was the service I got from the Audi dealer = crap. Felt like I was in a used car dealer buying a Commodore. Depreciation on the car was also bigger than the 1.

Overall, it is not a bad car and if you like the look and feel of it get it for sure. Get which car has the benefits you want most.

'beemer' - I'd like to know where you can get an auto with roof drive away for 80k!!!

I am going to go against the trend and say get a TTS. It's much more exclusive and looks very nice on the road. The 2 litre has plenty of tuning potential if you want to go down that route, although I am not sure if the DSG can handle it. However I am saying this with the assumption that you use your car more as a road car than a track car. If you want a track car, then I would suggest that a 135i is a better starting point. But it's just a starting point. You do need to spend some $ to make a 135i properly track worthy.

Btw, is the TTS $95k drive away? That is pretty good isn't it?

i say have some more patience, wait for the TT RS, save up in the interim and then get that instead of the 1er or the TTS. no contest the TT RS will be much better.

That is a very good price!

Best I could get was 89k, but with metallic instead of the roof and Pro Nav, so add about 4k for that. So really, the same sort of car I could only get for 85k...

consumer reports just listed the Audi A3 - Q7 to the not recommended list due to decrease in reliability.... did anyone read the Oct CR on the 135?

with credit being so tight at the moment if you walk into any dealer now and offer cash you'll get a good discount. in my case i told the dealer 80k was my max, i'd pay cash, and 2 days later they phoned me back. that was 4 months ago, things are worse now. doesn't surprise me that audi are down to 95k for the tts.

Audi TTS OR 135I

Yeah the 95K is drive out the showroom, additionally the car has metalic paint, Sat nav, and upgraded sound. it was $108,000 list with options before you put on all the envy charges.

the car has been sitting on the showroom floor since built and so i went in and negotiated as its an 08 and we are now moving into 09. (I am also a corporate customer!)

i would say though that the bmw i got was a 135i man coupe, saphire black, bus nav, upgrade sound and sunroof for $81,750 drive away. So i know how to negotiate with a dealer.

the price doesnt concern me as the finance i am getting is only a matter of a hundred bucks either way.

BMW Gave me a 8.25% interest rate.. AUDI gave me a flat 8%

So i suppose its down to the Look and feel of both cars.

The car i choose will never see a track day, so that doesnt concern me. And if i am honest i would never look at tuning the car as i feel both are quick enough out the box for me to live with on a daily basis.

I am concerned about the residules on both cars as i am not sure how strong they would be on the AUDI? bmw's traditionally hold up very well.. Audi's not so much, although the S range seem a bit stronger. I dont have much experience with this as i am new to the country.

BMW Finance will give you guaranteed trade in on the residual if your term is up to 4 years I believe.

I will test drive both and decide from there. $10K is not a major issue.

I have been going for looks in the car over power but I think I will go for power this time. You will never know. I will make a video out of the test drive if WAY lends me his suction cup camera mount LOL

That reminds me...you still have my camcorder! Btw, for you the answer is a 135i as the girls will not fit in the TTS, and if you are going for the convertible, then there are no back seats (remember my TT Roadster that I bought when that first came out?).
