Further, as security measures from manufacturers increase, we will see a shift away from OBDII flashing. This is already the case with all of the VAG vehicles. ECU's from these vehicles need to be physically opened, so at-home flashing in this case is not feasible. I expect to see fewer and fewer vehicles that can have tables accessed through OBDII. In fact, BMW is the only post 2010 platform which we can still flash through OBDII.
Mitsubishi can be flashed through the OBD port as well.

That why I said which we currently flash, as we only do European automobiles. Sorry, I was a bit unclear there.

Can't wait for this...

So stage 1 and 2 will basically be ready at the same time?

Stage 2 will follow very shortly after Stage 1. The difficult part is the process of developing the file, and once that is done the next stages are simply a matter of modifying the tables.

We do plan to, but our focus at this point is on the Exx N55. The F30 uses a different part number DME, so our attention will turn to this once we cover the previous generation of N55.

No problem. I too am awaiting your tune. Will the BT flash loader log data as well?

And I am unclear as to how the flash needs to be uploaded? Do I have to go to a "GIAC" dealer or will I be able to do the flash myself? I know you mentioned this earlier but it was not that clear.

I am also interested in logging, if not then I will use a stand alone logger.

Wait.. You guys have an app then to switch maps?!! So the race is on.. Cobb or GIAC to finish first for N55 development.. I would much prefer to use an iPhone app to switch maps than Cobb's handheld.

Yes, we do most of our logging with a BT tool, and recommend it to customers as well.

The flash would need to be uploaded at a GIAC dealer, the Flash Loader simply allows you to switch between the files loaded on your DME.

I see. This can pose a problem when having to go to the dealer for warranty work. Even if it is not engine related. I think this is why Dinan and Cobb may be a better choice. I'm not saying those tunes would be better but with Dinan you have the warranty and with Cobb you cn remove the tune.

I suspect one of the reasons you guys go this way is to protect the dealer network, which I understand.

While we have not had a warranty problem to date, unfortunately no software provider can guarantee that your warranty will not be voided. Even if you remove the tune, there will be traces that remain. The only true way to guarantee your warranty is to remain stock, but as we all know even this is no sure thing. At the end of the day, the dealer can nearly always find a way to flag you if they desire. For this reason, I first recommend bringing the car to a dealer who you know and is acceptable towards modifications.
