Has the E90 been in a published Crash test?

I know BMW and all Auto manufacturers have to conform to certain US standards, but is there a published crash test for the E90 conducted by an independent agency{NHTSA, IIHS, NCAP}?

My question would be - how does any car get a > 1 star rating for pedestrians? If you're hit by any car as a pedestrian - it would be a miracle not to die.

Citroen C6 has 4 stars. Link Citroen C6

The C6 is the first car to be awarded
the maximum four stars for pedestrian
protection. When the car senses that it
is striking a pedestrian, a pop-up
bonnet is activated, giving greater
clearance between the bonnet surface
and the rigid components of the engine.

I guess it's all relative... when compared to those tiny cars in Europe. Even so, I would've called it a mid-size car.

I totalled a Ford Pinto when it hit me on my bike in a crosswalk. All I had was a stiff neck for a week.

According to this European group, the 3 series rated as poor for rear end whiplash tests...has to do with the design of the head restraints.

http://www.thatcham.org/ncwr/index.j...1151&display=s

Here is the complete report:

Sorry to read the above. Thankfully you are OK. What about your car? Easily fixable? The front and rear ends crush to absorb impact. Do you feel this helped ease the whiplash?

Anyone else in your car? Are they OK?

I hope you have your car back on the road ASAP.

All the best

I would agree with the whiplash comment. When my E90 was rear-ended I had a stiff neck for a couple of weeks.

Is there a specific way to position your headrest to minimize whiplash injury?

Also, would sport seats offer better protection?

Now I find this out

An article just published by NHTSA says that compact cars suffer the highest fatality rate.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11103598/

I got my Familymobile thinking that (a) better handling, steering, engine and brakes equals better safety, and (b) failing that, I'd get good crash protection.

On the one hand, now I'm worried. On the other hand, becoming yet another SUV-driving jackass strikes me as a fate worse than death.

I think I'll start taking the subway more often.

What if I just duct-tape a big pillow to my headrest?

Whiplash

I believe that if you read the European review, this whiplash rating refers to the 2005 model.

I hate to share my story with you but after I was rear ended in July of last year my car was in BMW bodyshop/service till early December. While there was not a whole a lot of damage (no structure damage at all and only one panel replaced but lots of little parts and bolts and nuts, etc) the repair still took enormous amount of time. And the quality sucked badly. I'm still trying to get little things fixed so the car will be without any "chips" and issues and make the damn service pay for it.

Hopefully it will take much less time in your case since the car been out there for some time.
