So I test drove a manual 330i Finally...

I wasn't that impressed or unimpressed, it just left me cold. I was gonna wait for the coupe but I expect that in Sept at this point and I can't wait that long. I had test drove an E90 last year, auto, expecting the manual to make the difference but...mehh. Beleive it or not I'm looking at the 6 now, I might order one tommorow. I think my E46 (modded of course) is faster. As much as I wanted to I just didn't vibe on the E90. What were you guys first impressions? Did it take a bit to appriciate it?

Nah, for me, you either like it or not. Some things that were a negative can be soothed over time, but I believe for this to happen, you must like the *core* of the car.

Go with the 6, m6, keep the e46, whatever, but I woudn't buy the e90 if I viewed it as you. Think of the positives, you won't be driving a car that many other people have.

I agree, I'm prolly gonna end up with the 650i but it's to bad in a way because I was looking forward to getting the new 3 for about a year and a half. To be honest I've never put out money for a car like I'll have to for the 6, I'm almost intimidated

If all you want is faster (yes, even faster than your modded E46), then go test drive the IS350, even though it only comes in auto.

Was the car equiped with? (SP or not?). Maybe you can wait till next year and see what (if any, don't want to start this debate again) modifications BMW is planning for the engine system.

I wasn't too thrilled about it until I went to the dealer and saw an Electric Red one in person. It was beautiful. Then I test drove it, and being a long time Maxima owner and a potential TL buyer, I was thrilled with the E90.

I didn't like my first e90 test drive either. Just blah. I discovered later, however, the lack of thrill was because the car only had 7 miles on it. The car "feels" so much better after break-in. Get it and you'll love it. No doubt.

I'm not sure I'd compare a 330 to a 650. If i'd driven a 650 and then hoped in a 330 I'd probably say meh too. Course I wouldn't be cross shopping the two cars; I'd be cross shopping something at the same price level as the 650.

If you're willing to shell out the extra $ for the 6, then maybe wait for the 335 (assuming you can wait)?

I drove a 6sp 330i with sport pack this past weekend. I currently have a 545/6sp with sport package.

I must say, that apart from the power and torque deficit (which will be made up for in the 335), the 330 driving experience was superior to the 5er experience. The clutch and shifter were worlds better; the steering was nice and heavy and precise, and the steering wheel itself was much better than my 545.

Personally, I can't wait for my lease to be up next spring so I can go "downmarket" back to the 3er.

I raced my neighboor with his 2004 545. We went from standing still at a stoplight to about 85 mph. It was a dead tie even though I think I had a couple inches on him. No power and torque deficit that I can see!

Wow, if I had the $$ for a 650 there would be no contest. That is a far more unique car and a real studmobile.

The 330i step is worth a try too!!!

Good news. The 335 should be that much better, then.

Maybe it was just the newness of the motor (the demo had a whopping 4 miles on it) and the fact that it was very tight, that it felt like it had a substantial deficit. The power delivery is certainly so silky smooth with that I6 that I might have just not noticed how fast I was accelerating.

I'm testing the 6 tommorow, can't wait. I gotta admit I'm nervous about the possiblity of having a car thats that expensive. What sucks is the dealership only has a 645 Auto to test drive so I'm gonna have to use my imagination a bit because the 650 is a bit faster, and I hate automatic.

I came from a e46 too and i did not like the e90 at first. I too though the car FELT slower but in reality it was not. I figured this out when i was going 120+ and was racing my close friends who i had raced with my old e46. Stupid, i know. But anyways, no need to talk about the e90 more. Just get the 650i. It is ssuuuch a beautifull car but the damn thing feels like a boat! (My dad has a 645cic). Well good luck and post pics when you get either.

I agree... Dealerships should have some demo cars with at least 3000 to 5000 miles on them. There is no way you an make an accurate assessment with a tight motor.

The Step in that 645 is going to be awesome, don't worry. It'll be smooth and responsive. When you want to kick down, just do it, BMW step is great. Try the Manual mode, you might like it too much!!

I test drove a E90 with manual mode Auto (if thats what it's called ) and I just genuinly don't like auto regardless. I like having a clutch, you feel the car more. Anyway I deffinitly post pics if/when I get it but that won't be till mid March prolly. I'll let you guys know what I thought of the 6 tommorow tho after I test drive it.

Cool, so you know how it feels.

I'm sure the 650 with manual is just downright scary.

Have fun tomorrow!

Oh BTW can you guys give me any idea of what kind of negotiating power I realisticly have. I wanna lease it for 3 years and I will probably put $10 000 down (Canadian$$$), the online calculator on www.bmw.ca says with the Exec Pkg, Jet Black and leather it should come out to around $1400 a month. What would you guys guess I could get it down, a lot, a little??
