Exhaust Question. Feedback needed.
Looking for a few good exhaust options whether it be a full system or just a DP. Basically my goals are to improve sound, and keep it street legal. Also, will an aftermarket exhaust void my warranty with BMW ??
On a side note, for those shopping around for the 135i powerkit I got a quote today. For the flash only its, $599 on special until the end of december, plus an hr of labor @ $178. Thanks in advance for your input!

Any idea how much it costs installed?
Do the exhaust burbbles I get on my stock exhaust increase? I love that sound. Also forgot to mention, I want to keep the black tips.

unless you have a pipe cutter i think the bmw exhaust needs to be installed. as for the tips, they aren't welded on you can slide them off and then onto your new one! if the tips are welded on the perf exhaust, you have have to cut them as well, just don't cut too much that you cant get the tips back on.

I just had my local muffler shop install this Magnaflow muffler on my 135. It sounds great, and only cost me $340, and shaved over 30 pounds off the car's overall weight.
The sound is just what I was looking for, I opted for a Mercedes AMG single exhaust tip that fit perfectly, with matching angle cut. I may switch back to the stock style dual tips, not sure. I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but $1250 for the BMW axle back exhaust is a LOT of $$. The Magnaflow offering is $550-$800, and others I sourced were a lot of money as well. I would think that any good muffler shop can do what I've had done here for similar costs. |

Couldn't be happier with my Berk Technology full street exhaust... great price as well from David@EAS. Lovely burble and I believe you can pay a little extra to get it coated black.

I'm actually looking at doing the same upgrade on my 135i, Perf exhaust + Perf Power Kit.
For the BMW Perf exhaust they first quoted something like 1500$ + tax + manpower, but it quickly went down to 1275. I got a quote for a stage 2 power kit because they had one they had put on a car for mechanics trainings. It was 1275$, down from 2000 ish. Overall for both + tax + manpower they said they can lower it up to 3000$. I'm still thinking about saving another 500$ and just get the stage 1 kit. The price you got for the kit is very good, it's the same price on getbmwparts.com and they are very cheap. You can also look at getting your exhaust from there if your dealer doesn't lower the prices too much. I went to listen to one of the mechanics' car with the Perf exhaust, and it sounds fucking great. I've listened to a lot of exhausts on youtube (not perfect, i know), but this one sounded very nice and quite angry .. Which is what I want to hear when I step on the gas of a 300+hp car. One last thing, the mechanic said the power kit was underestimated, and overall with power kit + exhaust I should be around 350hp. I've read a lot of posts saying that they felt it was much more than a 20hp increase, but 350 sounds quite a lot. Any thoughts on that anyone? |

I have the Remus Race quad exhaust, it is great and has the great burble that you are looking for. For just an axle-back, the Remus really changed the exhaust note to a nice sporty european sound. It is a little high for just an axle back though.

I actually got my perf exhaust installed today (no power kit yet). I need to test drive some more but:
- Lot of noise (too much?) with windows open, not so much windows closed - Lot of burbles - Noticeable improve in performance. Not sure if it is the placebo effect but it does seem like it improved acceleration. |

I would recommend Berk street performance exhaust with ceramic coating (black). Deeper tone than stock..you have an N55 so I would keep the mid pipe. Street legal(?), then AR catted down pipes if you want DPs. Otherwise, the Berk axle back will be your best bet...a bolt on axle back is not going to void your warranty and its only $700-$800 and you have black tips

+1 for Berk.
It shouldn't void your warranty at all. I am sure your dealership gets cars that have changed exhausts to different ones on a weekly basis. |

It's pretty much "illegal" to do anything that modifies the catalytic converters on a car. So technically all you can do is change the axleback. However, if you live in an area that does not require emissions inspection this modification will probably never be noticed. Even in emissions inspecting areas sometimes you can still pass depending on what you did and how they test.
As far as BMW goes they might try to not cover warranty work if you've modified your car in anyway. The way I understand it they really can't void your warranty, they just refuse to do warranty work by blaming your mods (Btw this is the case with my car, it's been written up for all its mods by BMW). Most likely this will only come up if you decide to replace the stock downpipes. So an axleback is very safe, midpipes still probably safe. I personally think MadDad makes the best axlebacks and midpipes for the money for our cars. They make a whisper or street series axleback. Great midpipe too. Don't do a downpipe mod unless you are very serious about modding.
