shouldnt skip the thread...

The part you skipped was in reference to this whole GB being a private vendor trying to import these parts on a large scale and BMWNA stepping in.

Which is different than you in an official BMW dealer capacity trying to import them to a BMW parts dept via BMWNA. Apparently the same result, but I dont believe this was a duplicate of your same effort.

Anyone with a 2012 that obviously already has the LCI taillights switching to Blackline ones? I'm curious to see comparison pics if anyone is doing this. I just don't see a ton of difference between the Blackline and regular LCI lights.

What I'm trying to say is that BMWNA will not step in. At least they told me they will not. No privateer or shop can purchase from BMWNA directly. BMWNA sells only to dealerships, who then may sell to privateers or shops. So, if BMWNA releases the part, I will sell them. If not, the privateer you need to purchase from will have to purchase from a dealership outside of the US.

Post #81 has a comparison of the two. At night, I expect they'll be pretty similar. It might be the lighting in that photo, but it really highlights the different look between the two.

I wish I hadn't bought my LCIs a month before these blacklines, but I can't justify another set of tails.

Anyone know if the reversing lights are still white LED, and is it safe to assume that because these are newer they have the newer foam gaskets (i.e. the ones that don't offgas and ruin the LEDS)?

So come to find out there are 2 versions of these tailights, regular LCI and BLACKLINE LCI. I like the BLACKLINE better, and will try to source them from Schmiedmann.

I believe BMW has fixed that problem since Dec/2010 over here with the pre LCI's. LCI's never had that LED contact problem where the LED strips would fail.

The reverse light is NOT an LED(not that I have seen). Its just like the pre LCI tails - just a regular light bulb. The only part that is LED is the light that comes on with the headlights(ie tail lights).

What about the third light for those that don't have adaptive braking? I.E. rear fogs?

I think it still works. Like on any pre LCI lights.

On a US spec car... the inner lights are not used. IF you have an EU rear brake fog light switch... when switched on... the inner lamp is on.

Or on an EU spec car when you brake HARD the inner lamp comes on as a two stage brake lights - just like on any US spec cars. The Adaptive brake lights are on EU cars and that FLASHES the thrid brake light under HARD (serious)braking.

And on EU cars just before a really hard brake stop the hazzard lights will also deploy automatically.

Its all in the coding of the car. The lights are all basically the same units. Other than these Blacklines not having any DOT seals on them.
