Titanium studs + other goodies
Acer Racing had their ti studs priced at $109, down from $250...along with Mishimoto aluminum lug nuts, the weight saving is close to 2 lbs per wheel.
Still running lug bolts? Studs make the wheel easier to R & R, plus you don't wear out the threads in your hubs... Also in the photo: BMW 6 piston BBK (same as 135i), Eibach stainless coil-overs, and WhiteLine adjustable swaybar link.

Couldn't find a set of lightweight, adjustable links for the rear sway bar...oh, Hotchkis makes them, but try to get a set from them...forget it.
So, I made a set...very light with heim joints on both ends. Also check the "lemon" yellow sway bar bushings...these are much firmer than stock, but they're not like hard plastic like some aftermarket bushings are...found these in a very unusual place: Russia!

Nice parts, but the huge centering spindle the wheels mount on obviates the need for studs for the purpose of easily mounting the wheel. Nobody is gonna wear out the threads on their spindles unless they're an idiot and cross thread something, in which case aluminum lug bolts are definitely not something they should be using.
This is also about the LAST thing you would need to change on your car, somewhere after converting the front suspension to double A arm and getting carbon fiber wheels. With that said, they look cool and if you're rich it's decent bling...AFTER you get those carbon wheels . |

Yes Wind, BMW's are hub-centric but studs make the wheel mounting much easier and your threaded hubs stay like new...I've owned 4 BMW's and they've all had studs installed a week or two after I bought them...
The hub's thread depth is 12mm...the aluminum lug bolts have 3 times that threaded length, 35mm, plus a wider flange than most lugs or bolts. They're strong enough for me, although I wouldn't use them for racing...but I definitely wouldn't use bolts for racing either... I agree, titanium studs are over the top, but for $109 vs $90 for steel studs, they are great conversation.. The LAST thing I need to change? That would be the wheels... to 26" Dubstars.

Does this stud/lug conversion reflect a 2lb per wheel weight savings over lug bolts alone? or 2lb savings over using aluminum studs. I could stand to reduce some unsprung weight.

LOL, you actually bought those extra long bolts?!?!?
You just made my point why studs are better...once installed, run any wheel, any spacer or any combination you want...and you don't have to worry if your bolts are too long, too short...you only got 12mm to play with...you can't be long and definitely don't want to be short.... I got a nice set of Macht Schnell 72mm steel studs you can have...paypal me $50 and they're shipped to you...now, you can sleep soundly instead of tossing and turning all night wondering if you bolts are long enough...or too long.

If you race or do track days, stick with steel studs, 72mm, and get a good set of steel lug bolts...don't use aluminum lugs or ti studs for track.

Nice. Studs are the way to go, makes wheel changing much easier and can throw on any size spacers if needed. Let's not forget they look way cooler than wheel bolts! bling!

See, that's what I would want to avoid. Never liked the long lug nut look.
