You must work for the current BMW design team... An ///M is designed for performance first and foremost. What you just argued is the path that BMW is now going down, and I would say it is going downhill, fast. An M1 is the wrong place to look for "Sexy Style, Good Looks and good gas milage"

Agreed. Hopefully Akrapovic will be designing a full Ti exhaust for the 1///M

It's running manufacturer plates, and this same car has been sighted near several BMW facilities hundreds of miles apart. SCOTT just stated today that the car would be on the Ring, and here it is. There's no doubt at all that this is an M1 test mule.

The camo is that it's not running any production bodywork that hasn't already been seen.

Proper cooling is a big hurdle for this car due to lack of space which is why you haven't seen a ton of 135i's on the track as it is.

What I do not like:
-sound
-no Brembo brakes

So it seams I'll still have to mod the M1. Here is my list:
-Brembo brakes
-KW V3 CS
-KN Intake/Air Filter
-Akrapovic TI Full-Exhaust (hope they'll do one)
-Noelle Motors ECU

Hope I won't have to add Recaro lightweight seats.

Couldnt Brembos show up in a later test mule? I would imagine we will see this mule "evolve" over time on the Ring....

M Division exists solely because inorder to race in certain leagues a manufacturer needs to make a road car that the race car is based off of.

This is the same reason why Ferrari exists, it is the same reason that Porsche makes a 911 GT3 and it the same reason why Aston Martin makes the DBS.

So to answer your question. The M Division makes race cars, that are sorta street legal.

Have you ever driven or ridden in an E30 M3? Talk about a shitty road car

But why do you need to brag? Thats the reason why the M Division has sold out. They are building cars for badge whores who just want to brag that their car is fast.

That is why people say that M stands for Marketing instead of Motorsport now.

Im not saying that you cant be proud of your car. There will always be a pride in ownership.

But bragging about it, and buying it inorder to brag makes it arrogance.

Oh well--let's just move on and be excited about the M1.

There will always be folks that buy ///Ms for reasons other than the true motorsporting intentions....

Anyone else notice it's got the old style flip-up nav screen? I wonder how many miles that test mule has been through in its life. It makes you wonder how many engine / suspension / etc. swaps it's been through in its life.

They use old Press cars for such development mules as this , The body is a 135i whilst the mechanicals are all M certified.

All cars you see testing , right up to the semi disguised prototypes you still see after the launch are all eventually crushed.
