lost some weight today
So I was wondering what was pushing my rear drivers bumper outward...right next to the muffler
a long black cylinder ...apparently my bracket broke that holds that 20lb cylider of no use. Took it into the shop they said they can either remove or reweld the bracket up. I said remove it , and kept the cylinder and bracket just incase for future use. the shop told me they seen these on other cars. Ballast aka dead weight i wonder how many more are on the car. https://www.dropbox.com/s/9bt9rww2nkmecen/photo%201.JPG https://www.dropbox.com/s/g89a2e7u6bu3924/photo%202.JPG Last edited by dannypwr; 06-10-2014 at 12:12 PM.. |

Sounds like an anti vibration isolator. Basically, a heavy weight with rubber attachments at the end. Usually installed at either/both ends of the car. It is there to cancel out or dampen vibrations. The further they are installed from the Center of gravity, the better they work, which is why you find them near the bumpers.
Basically, if the car has a vibration from side to side, the weight will vibrate in the opposite direction, effectively cancelling out the vibration. They are usually tuned to a specific harmonic frequency. |
