Thinking about making it a Lemon
Car has 31k miles on it and is 14 months old.
I have had the following problems: -Sunroof wasn't operating smoothly. Made strange noises. -Power Steering Pump went out, leaving me with no powersteering 11 hours away from home while on a ski trip. -2 High Pressure Fuel Pump were replaced -1 Low pressure fuel pump was replaced -Radio randomly stopped working multiple times -Drivers Side window failed -2 cig lighters stopped working. -Dash Board trim fell off, Dashboard has Air bag indent on the passenger side -Adaptive Headlights broke -And the most recent, turbo wastegate rattle. Car has been in for the rattle for 23 days and counting as of today. Does anyone feel that I have a case against BMW taking this car back. It has caused me nothing but trouble and has been in the shop for over 30 days in 14 months. Every other month this thing is back at bmw getting something fixed. |

Had a friend who worked for BMW and he told me to stay away from 135,335 & 535 vechicles due to HPFP. that was one of the main reason I did not get the 135i, just pick up a 09 128i. BMW rep was in the dealership every week to process the lemon law vehicles.

I do NOT think you have a case for a Lemon... yet! You need three attemped "fixes". Maybe when you get your next HPFP. lol
Three repairs for a saftey issue... or six for a non safety issue. I do not know about total days in the shop - lost. Look in the warranty book about the lemon laws. Or check into your states laws. You might have a case. ? |

I read up on it, and officially opened up a case with BMW. After the 2nd saftey failure (fuel pump) you are legally allowed to notify BMW that you are thinking about lemoning the car. The rep said I def have a case and what would I like BMW to do. I told them to give me a realiable car that isn't in the shop every other month. I said once it gets out of the shop this time, if one more thing breaks, I want BMW to buy the car back because I no longer feel it is safe and reliable. Being that I still have a 881 pump, its only a matter of time before this problem is solved.

HPFP failure
Not sure if N55 is gonna have same issues, but to look out for it what are the signs of failure and what can be done (if anything) once it fails (does car have to be towed)?

The n54 has TONS fuel pumps being the main vanos issues Injector issues turbo issues all these are fairly common and on top of the random stuff that might break. If my car ends up getting bought back, I am certainly not getting into a n54/n55 car unless I have no choice. |

Sorry to hear about the HPFP issues, gotta suck as other than that the 3ltr twin turbo seems to be such a nice engine. Just wish the 135i wasn't so terrible expensive here
I just wonder what modern car doesn't have any issues these days |

I was going to start my own thread almost like this one. 23 months into a 24 month lease @ 18500 miles. It has had three fuel pumps the last one the car died getting on the freeway. What a thrill that was.I have to take it in twice for each pump as it is BMW policy to just re-flash the ecu the first time in for each pump failure. Two bad fuel injectors caused flooding. The windshield washer tank leaked all the time yesterday they replaced it. Had to pull the front bumper to get it in there. On the way home the window stuck 1/2 way up and wouldn't go up. Its a great car when it runs right. Which is less than 1/2 of the time

Quick update:
Found a laywer, officially started a case against bmw. My attorny said, based on what I told him, we have very strong shot for BMW to buy the car out for whatever I owe on it. 29k in my case. On top of that they will write a cash settlement for my downpayment and whatever payments were made to date. This cash settlement will include the duduction for mileage at the time the car was first brought into the dealership for a significant issue. (fuel pump, low miles) If all goes according to plan, I will be out of this car soon. If anyone in NJ has the same issue, pm me and I will give you my attorny number, its not cost to you win or lose. If you win, he charges bmw for his time, not you. |

You didin't need to get a lawyer for that. I got everything you mentioned in your email just working with BMW NA on my own. I was on my second pump and they paid my car off and gave me all my payments back minus $800 for wear and tear. I had the car 6 months with 8000 miles.

Good luck I hope you do well with this. I was lucky my car had a 24 month lease. I turned it back to BMW on Friday last week. Something else you could add to your complaint is the lag BMW is now programming into the 135I cars. Anyone who had an early production car knows what I am talking about. When the car was new before any of the ecu updates the car had no lag whatsoever. When I took it back last week it had lag anything below 2000 rpm you mash the gas and it just hesitates a couple seconds. So much for the twin turbo.

The electrical issues are all likely traced back to a low battery, which happens on lots of short-trip start/stops, especially with heater, seat heater, lights, etc all on. The car will shut the non-essentials down to keep the car running. Check your voltage and you'll find the battery low.
Mine does that in winter periodically.
