Wheel Weights Balancing Question
I recently got new tires and the tech who took the old wheel weights off left most of the sticky foam padding that secured them on the wheel. I'm probably being paranoid, but is the weight of this foam stickum pad (maybe a 4"x1" strip) significant enough eight to alter wheel balancing?
I'd like to clean it off with Goo Gone, but don't want to mess with the balancing. Thanks, everyone!

The left over foam tape will not cause your wheels and tires to be out of balance.

My experience is that there is no effect from such a small bit of material.

It's not about the "balancing". It's an installer liability thing. Basically, the assumption is that spacers are a hazard on a car. Now, most of us enthusiasts should know this is not true. They are not a hazard when spec'd correctly (should be hub centric and of excellent manufacturer quality), installed correctly, and torqued correctly. However, if you're a tire shop owner, the majority of people coming in are probably using non hub centric, POS spacers that are not any of the above listed items. Therefore, they can be considered a hazard and it's easier for the shop to simply say "we won't work with them" to avoid liability should the wheel fall off while driving and cause an accident because, at that point, the hardware itself could fail and the car's owner point the finger at the shop that installed\reinstalled them.

Comes down to liability.
