No, doubt you will be able to crak 11's with tune only. Just saying that up here our 250rwkw's equate to low 12's. Ie... the dyno down there is errr... a little.. errr... generous?

Especially considering stock M's are pulling 250+kw's alone. But up here around 230.

PS. I'm not trying to start a fight. Honestly just pointing out something we've noticed but nobody wants to say.
You can't go off one single dyno result to generalise and say that it is generous... Most stock N54's that have been dyno'd on that same machine are within the 175-185 rwkw mark which would make it quite accurate I would say. That includes not just both of my 135's but many other people's N54's.

If in Brisbane your dyno reads <160 rwkw for stock N54s it would mean your dyno's are probably overly conservative.

1MOz just has an epic stock 1M and he's a very lucky man for it.

Well it seems that that if you live in Sydney the benefits are
1- Happy dyno
2- Clean air
3- Cheap petrol
4- Great service
5- Cheap cars
6- A great race track facility

I guess its time you made the move to the beating hart of Australia the real capital, SYDNEY.

On another note have your dyno guy ring me and I will help him set up his dyno to match our one, this is easy to do and I am more than happy to help. 02-96483366 Peter

Dyno set up

OK here is the ADVAN setup for the Dynodynamics dyno that we use for dyno days

WE DO NOT USE SHOOT OUT MODE as the ramp time is to long I am not interested to hurt someone's engine for the sake of a power number.

I set up our dyno to ramp at the value of 200 and leave the air temp sensor probe on the wall, during customer setup we type in the room temperature and vehicle details and your ready to go.

While this method is not universal it is how we do it, its all about looking after that mega buck engine.
The difference between ramp 200 and Shoot out mode is the ramp time to complete the shoot out run at full power will take almost twice as long.

We have used this method for over 10years and not had an issue

For those that would like there car to be run in shootout mode just ask on the day its your call and your issue if there is an engine failure

Guys don't let dyno power numbers become an issue in your own mind. A dyno machine is use to tune your car and for that purpose it is fantastic.

The same dyno machine on the same day used in the same manner will give you a decent power comparison with the next bloke. Comparing two different machines on two different days operated by two different people is not going to be comparable.

One thing I can tell you is that Peter at Advan doesn't play silly games with dyno results. He simply runs your car up and tells you how much power it made on that day.

Everyone thinks their workshop's dyno reads lower than everyone else's. IT's all vanity and it really doesn't matter.

Totally agree. I am no expert when it comes to Dyno but it's bemusing to see a lot of (dare I say) pointless debates on this magic number.

Most of us are just enthusiast drivers who enjoy nice cars and like to get a bit more out of our cars and really dyno numbers are just for one's own comparisons how much if any gain is made with the mod they did. There's no winners or losers. And for myself, I want the dyno chart to tell me if the car is still running safe with the mods put in.

Just my 2 cents Gentlemen. Don't flame me now. :

If numbers were just numbers, why get a dyno at all? Just take it to the track and be done with it...

Fact is, we all care about numbers. If someone's 1M pulled 150kw there would be an outcry. Likewise if someone's 135i pulled 120kw.

I'm not saying Advan fudge the numbers, just saying that all the results up here have been more conservative. Let's not forget someone made a mistake when dynoing a certain 1M... Has anyone that turned up at that meet actually taken their car down the quarter? As far as I know, the only guy that get's dyno's AND takes it to the strip is Edwin?

Just annoys me when person A comes on here bragging they got 2**rwkw from *insert modification* whilst others have 10% 'less' power, but 20% 'more' mods so to speak.

I took my car down to the strip the week prior to the meet. Pretty sure there were at least a couple other guys there that have also gone to the strip with their cars. Whether or not they've posted their results are another matter.

There are many factors which result in different power ratings. There were in excess of 20 cars dyno'd that day with many varying results, varying tunes, varying mods etc. Some did extremely well, some did as expected, some were disappointing.

Even dyno results for different stock cars on the same dyno can produce results that are more than 20kW apart. Once you throw in a tune it's in another ballpark. On that day, same dyno, same engines, same temperatures etc, there were some cars that pulled 230 with tune and FBO, others that pulled 260 with only a tune. My E88 pulled only a 222 with a tune, DCIs and some exhaust mods.

There's no point comparing dyno results from different cars with different tunes on different dynos done in different states which have generally different ambient temperatures. The results are going to vary and unless you take the same car to different dyno's and somehow replicate the exact same weather conditions you aren't going to be able to say whether one dyno is more or less 'conservative' than the other.

Who knows, maybe everyone up in QLD got cars that were built on a Monday or Friday

All I'm trying to say, is that there's no point getting your panties all in a twist just because there was one 1M that pulled a 250kW stock.

It just seems to me as though you saw one or two dyno results from this thread without fully reading the rest of it and assumed that this particular dyno somehow reads much higher than the one you are using in QLD. I'm pretty sure there have been plenty of stock 1Ms that have read ~230kW stock on this particular dyno which would make it in line with what you were describing on your dyno.

There is plenty of information and varying dyno results on this thread from that day which clearly shows that we are not all getting consistently high results.

Agree.. Off hand, I think we dynoed 3 stock 1M's in the past on the same day, one after the other and they pulled between 229 to 235.. FACT.

Ummm... this isn't just this day. Most results posted in these forums from this dyno have a similar theme.

Either way, yes you cannot compare this that blah blah. But when multiple results, across the span of over a year can be quite compelling. Especially when we have higher humidity and temps in the Sunshine state :-)

Out of interest froop, what times did you get on the track with what mods?
