I bought mine specifically to have 'fun' with, don't see anything wrong with adding an lsd and some stiffer subframe bushings or other bolt ons. Things that improve the handling but don't ruin the ride.

I would consider a PPK as a mod, in the same way as a Dinan or any other modification to the base factory tune such as Cobb or MHD. Especially when it's on an n55 where it can be coded without seeing a dealer.

There is something to be said for a BMW enthusiast car & keeping it "factory" vs aftermarket. Dinan being the exception to many enthusiasts.

I disagree. The PPK is factory. Dinan is not a part of bmw, and neither is cobb or burger tuning.

Still, PPK isn't stock, it's an upgrade, and therefore a modification.

I think most people on this forum would agree the 1 series isn't sold as the 'best version of its self' in OEM form the way a Ferrari (or, say an E46 M3) is. (with the possible exception of the 1M) I chose the N54 platform specifically because of what it could be, not for the de-tuned product sold by BMW. When you can spend $5k to get 30%-50% more power, it seems a shame to leave it in stock form - falling so far short of its potential. And look, I'll bite - as popular as the Honda Civic is for modding, it's FWD. As an ex-owner of the classic `76 civic, there's little you can do to that car to make it better. Front wheel grip was easily exceeded by the 50hp stock engine - there wasn't much point trying to add more power. I mean, sure, the later versions can be improved with a healthy splash of stick-on carbon fibre, a roof-height GT Wing, blue-flashing LED's, ultravilot neon lights and 5" Exhaust outlets - but Honda's taking the fun out of that by incorporating these things into the OEM design of the type R. If you're looking to recommend a good platform for modifications - the Nissan (Skyline) GTR would be a good start... but it's much closer to a Ferrari in stock form than is the 1-series. |

Same same. It's not stock and it improves performance. That BMW made it & provides warranty coverage is just bonus material.
PPK is a modification over stock.
