I ordered the 135 with the 17" all seasons ,and I will go to the run flat snows for the winter Using the stock rims. There are a couple choices Im hoping I can find the Blizzak tires for it. I had those on my G35 and really liked them.

Do you have any pics with the 17" rims? I think I've only seen one other (not in U.S.A.) 135 with the 17" rims.

I was quoted the following for the 17 option on the 135 (2007 prices)

$172 front Blizzak
$193 rear Blizzak

This is just my local shop. Typically not the cheapest.

I will have an additional set of tires/wheels with max performance all-seasons for winter. Which is what I have done in the past, with other performance cars I have owned.

The Pirelli P-Zero Nero M + S served me well over two winters. They are not true snow tires but seemed up to the task. Even getting me out of my very lengtly gravel driveway with 7+ inches of snow. On the road I never had an issue either, they were fine.

My wife had Continental Conti-Extremes on her car (RWD) and they worked well also.

IMO true snows would be overkill if you live in an area with reliable snow removable proceedures, AKA in town/suburbs. If I lived in a more rural area I would get full blown snows for sure. YMMV of course, buy what you think is best for your area, skill level, and car.

So in short, I will have the OEM RFT's until I can destroy them and get real tires, and I will have max performance all-seasons for winter.

I live near Chicago, so winters can be harsh. You just need to be smart and save the really fun driving for summer.

DO NOT use summer tires when temps fall below say 40 F, they don't grip. I found that out at an early season autocross in my EVO. I was on a long sweeper, not going all that fast....SNAP back of the car was going first! Same corner with higher temps and I would have been going 15mph faster and probably STILL would have had room to go faster. IT MATTERS.

I live in Waukegan by Gurnee and was wondering what tire to get for winters. I work only 2.2 miles from home and only 14 days a month. The roads are usually cleared well, BUT this year was a real bitch. More snow/ice then I have seen in a long time. I think I will get a set of 17" wheels and Dunlop 225/45/17" D3 winter tires @ Tirerack. Non-runflat. I was also thinking about getting the spare space saver tire and jack on this website for about $400 total, they both weigh 40# and are small enough to leave in the trunk. That way when the OEM summer runflats wear out I can get non-runflats for summer and already have a spare and jack.

Oh geez. Don't use Performance tires if temps are under 40? Wow, we just got snow on Monday, with temps still in the 30's this week (at night and in the morning). Maybe I should bag the 18" wheels totally.

Topvega, what tires are you planning on getting? I'm looking for a set too...

I drive an Audi TT with AWD and I still use snow tires for the winter. I am definitely going to be getting them for the 135i and they will be on their own rims.

How about getting a cheap civic or corrola for the $1000 and parking the bimmer on snowy days?

Just because we are doing the right thing doesn't mean the next guy is. On LI one of two things happens when it snows; people either drive at 12 mph because they are scared or they drive at 90 mph because they want to beat the flakes home. And where am I? Usually stuck behind the guy going 12 and in front of the yahoo going 90. I would rather have a beater get crushed than the 1er.

ModlessG do you go to a shop and have the OEM tires taken off and the snows put on and balanced? If so what brand/size snows do you use? Thanks!

I dont know about that. I had no problem in 2 winters in Rochester, NY with All Seasons, even in three feet of snow my Impreza would go without traction problems at all.

I'm going to get a spare set of snow tyres and rims. I'm in London, UK so you may be thinking why on earth lol. But I drive to the French alps from December to May a lot and round about so I need them with RWD.

yes you get traction but not as good. At(-7 celcius) tires harden and you have way less traction.

I never had a problem, ever. Not in 3 feet of snow, not on the coldest of days you could imagine.

It doesn't snow too much in Vancouver (except for this past winter) but I have always used snow tires with their own rims and I will also do so for my 135. I'll probably go with 17's though.

Excellent point. RWD in the Northeast require Winter tires.

Here's a Tirerack deal with 17" Sport Edition KM11 rims and Blizzaks. All 4 with TPS for $1184. It's $1004 if you leave out the sensors. It's what I probably would do here in central NJ. Use em between December and March.

Those are the stock rims in the picture. The KM11s are a dark gray color. To take a picture of the car with the chose rims you'll have to do an Alt+Print Screen then paste that into a jpg using Paint or some other image editing program.

I have 17" winter, and 18" summer, but it is no problem here to get bigger winter tires, but the need for them at probably better over here. BTW the e82 is nice without the dtc as almost every bmw on slippery surfaces. In winter time the dtc is almost more off then on on mine.

I hear that snow is a type of rain that falls during cold weather. Someone told me that I would probably like the color of it.

You must have a huge lift kit on your Impreza to go through 3 feet of snow. My Tundra Crew cab limited 4x4 with TRD Posi 4.10 rear won't even do that. But it does go through 18" pretty easy.
