don't get flasher AND signal sound during lock/unlock

on page 22 of the manual, it says that I can get both flasher AND acoustic signal sound when I lock/unlock my car. But I don't see that option in the setting. My car was built in mid Feb. can someone confirm this please or do I need to get the lastest version for this? It's in the manual, so I thought it should be on the car when I got it.

You have to have the alarm in order to get the acoustic signal. The manual is a bit misleading in that respect.

ok thanks. this concludes this thread.

the manual needs to be updated, it mentions nothing about the alarm is needed to get the beep during lock/unlocked.

I made the same mistake and in fact called my CA to complain that not only wasn't the alarm working but the armed light under the mirror wasn't blinking. After re-reading the manual, I found the ever present (*) next to these capabilities. The (*) of course means optional or option. I felt both mislead and stupid.

You can still activate the flasher even without Alarm if you want to. It's done via Sept 2005 or later built cars with iDrive. Not sure if they non-iDrive cars can do it or not though. But pre Sept 2005 is for sure can't be done by the user, only by the dealer as of now.

Not true, I have a pre Sept. built car. The flasher can be set by the user with iDrive.

...I was mislead by the manual as well. I know (from time spent on this forum) that audible lock/unlock confirmation requires the alarm, but when I was reading the manual it was not obviously indicated that the OEM alarm is required and I thought that this mus tbe some new feature for the latest batch...so hopes were built... and dashed

to enable the beep you need the alarm AND iDrive, right?

This is confusing me, paying this much of the money for a BMW, and the car does not have a alarm?

The * is mentioned on page 5 and supplants the need to spell it out each and every time reference is made to an option that may or may not be on the car. Otherwise the manual would be 400 pages long, weigh more than a spare tire and would only fit in the well under the floor in the trunk.
