General tint quality question

I have been looking a tinted cars in my area and have looked closely at probably 15 or so cars. I was not happy with any of the jobs I have seen at all. Most have a window or two that have rough edges somewhere and every one I saw had a few tiny bubbles in a window or two. Am I dreaming about a tint job that doesn't have any bubbles and has all perfect cuts? Am I expecting too much. I live in Pittsburgh and have lived in Florida. I really never looked real close at all the tinted cars in Florida. Is it possible to get a super clean tint job with not one tiny bubble?

Also those little bumps on the sides of the windows... I really haven't looked that close to the e90. Is it loaded with those little dots on all the windows? That doesn't look very good when they just tint over that. It also looks like crap when they cut around it. I have not seen a job that they put vinyl over it yet.

Maybe I am expecting too much and need to realize that tinting a car isn't exactly a perfect type thing like a factory job or something?

Am I dreaming?

I think with any tint job, you will get a few tiny bumps here and there. If you look carefully at those tiny bumps, they are microscopic dust particle that get trap in between the film and the glass. It si quite difficult to prevent those unless you are in a air tight control room. A good tint to me is one where the edge is smooth and no gap. In Texas, we have a bmw shop that contract with a tint shop that do 3M tint. They are decent for the price. Last time I did on for the e46 sedan, it was $150 and I had the car for 5 years and no bubbles. I am not going to tint my e90 (still debating on this).

Thanks txusa03. I am not sure I am going to tint after seeing so many what I call poor jobs. I am actually thinking of learning how to do it myself, but I don't know how hard it is? I am very patient and am pretty fanatical, but it may be a job left to people that have done it for a while. I would pay more for a really good job. I was quoted $175 here, but I don't know. I saw a car parked in front of the place that wasn't a perfect job.

There are a few guys in my area who do flawless work. I had my previous Acura tinted for 3 years with zero bubble or imperfections. I'll be gettin my 330i done very soon.

If you see the owners of these cars, ask them were they had it done and then avoid that shop. The key is to find one that looks good and find out what shop that was done at.

When I had my E36 done, I had made the appointment but then was going to cancel after seeing a few E36 cars with poor tints. I than ran into this dude at home depot that had a tinted M3 and it looked really good. Turns out he had it done at the same place I was going to. I was happy with the results.

I want to have this car done but my biggest concern is the rear window. Most places will use two or three pieces to do the rear window and sometimes you can see the lines. I don’t know if it is possible to do it in one piece but that would be ideal.

You need to find a place that has done a few of these cars. I would not go to someone that has never done an E90.

Where in NJ? Are you close to the Apple? I may be doing some shopping in NYNY and could drop it off somewhere over that way, if it is close enough.

I believe that one piece is doable for our cars according to what I have read. I just will not tint, if I don't think it will be done right. I can't stand marks on my windows. I had someone try an break into my last car and hit the drivers side window with a brick, but it didn't break and my alarm went off. It left a mark and I replace the window just because of the mark. Yeah, it sucks being a person that would notice such a thing.

my socal MOBILE tinter has a 10K plotter hooked up to his computer in the back of the van and he pluged into my DSL to download the patterns for my car and the machine cut the tint not him! Its PERFECTION! All he does is peel it off like a sticker and hes got this cool machine on his truck that he uses babyshampo/water out of a air hose..
U peeps need to call around to your shops and see if they have this technology yet and go there and see there work..I would never let anyone cut my tint know that i now this is availlable!

Man and you are from Tampa. I was thinking maybe Florida would be the place to to for tint because so many cars are tinted down there. I may go to Sarasota later this year and thought about waiting until I go down there to get it done.

I doubt they are going to have that in Pittsburgh. Maybe Florida and of course Cali. That sounds pretty good, but it still needs to be bubble free. Cali is a bit far for me.

Hey velore, how about starting your own thread and not highjacking mine next time. Also, do a search before you post. This is covered and very easy to look up. Obviously leased cars you remove the tint if the dealer says to remove it when you turn it in.

There are tons of tint subjects, but I have read little about tiny bubbles and such.

My tint is 100% perfect. They used the plotter as well to cut the tint to the exact shape of the window... The tint looks factory, most people who look at my car don't know I had the windows tinted, it looks like I bought the car that way..

FYI: I am extreme perfectionist, especially when it comes to cars. For me to say they did a 100% perfect job means a lot!!

Man Boston is a haul. If I go to Vermont this summer, I may have to give you a shout and get the places number.

I'm right across the lincoln tunnel, the town is North Bergen NJ. The guy owns and operates the place himself. All he does is tints, nothing else. He is known as the best in the area . phone number is 201-330-9886

What place did you go to. I'm looking to get mine done. Do you have any pics of the tint?

Did they do the back window in one piece?

Tint King in Billerica. One piece rear. All cut with the plotter. Sorry I don't have any pictures yet, I want to detail/zaino my car first before I take some pics..
