Will it be too much $$ for a birthday present?

theres a road near where I live between two highways where a lot of business are located. If you are going in one particular direction, the road makes a sweeping turn to the right and actually gets tighter as the turn progresses. There is one particular tree located in the median just past the apex of the initial turn-in.

There have been I think THREE seperate fatal car accidents with the tree where someone underestimate the curve and crashed into the tree. After the second incident ruined the cross that was placed from the first one, the crosses were placed about 8 feet up directly on the trunk. When the third one happened, the crosses werent damaged, they just had to add another one. The trunk is all cut up and dented from many other non-fatal accidents. I find it amazing that even though its a known "dead man's curve" people still find a way to take the turn too fast.

maybe it's time to cut down that tree....

lol, a girl i know pulled out of her driveway to drive 3 minutes to our local highschool. She dropped a cd and bent down to pick it up and guess what..... jumped a curb and rolled the car onto the roof 30 feet from her own house.

it doesn't matter what car you drive. If anything the faster the car the better it handles and stops.

I am 16 at this moment and drive my parents 2005 Sonata. WHEN (not if) I get into a good college they said that they would but me a 135i. by good college i mean Washington university in St. Louis and up. Would you consider that earning that car? Keep in mind i have a 4.1 g.p.a and an a junior in High school and am in a college chemistry class ( Advanced placement Chem.). Also i have found the limits of the sonata in my parents hotels parking lot.(yess all of its performance can be unleashed in a parking lot) i dont plan on unleasing the 135 for a while, you can guess why. I would like to try out the BMW driving school but that prolly wont happen.

I do not think any 16 year old should have a sports car, especially a guy. I remember when i first had my liscence, and all the stupid things I did in my mom's 99 saab 9-3.

well this is my advice im 17 ive been driving since i was 15 and just to let you know a 135 is a bit much for a first car i have a 1999 honda accord that my dad bought for me for my bday i didnt want the car because i wanted a bmw but if u just stop and think a car is better and no car and i enjoy driving it but i currently have a job and im saving for a 135 that would be my advice for you.

Well im 16 aswell and my parents got me a 2007 Honda Fit Sport and its a great first car, i love modding the thing and its not fast but its got VTEC and it will out handle a 08 Si..So i love the thing..The 128i will be my next car down the road when im ready, i would suggest a brand new bimmer as a first car.

If your parents can afford it and deem you responsible enough to drive/buy you a 135i, more power to you and congrats.

On the other hand...

I'd never buy my kid a car with the calibur of a 135i. Plain in simple, you need to earn things. Trust me, it feels so much better being able to pay for your own shit.

Lets put it simple i have a cousin who turned 18 graduated from high school parents got hime a G35 lets jus say that his g35 has been in two major accidents that needed good body work and he has had over 10 nooks and crannies taken to the car, PLus winter time he couldn'r drive it so he took his moms neon....... shall i continue now he got a IS not sure what size engine or if its FWD or RWD or AWD but if he was smart He is going to buy a AWD because him and a rear wheel drive car is not going to work as he hopefully has learnt his lesson...... Now you look at your situation and go from here get your hand used to a car get a golf and then buy this bad boy in a years time you should be arite for a 135i for your second car.

^^^ I drove a 520rwhp cobra coupe to highschool, and I never got pulled over, and I only almost crashed ONCE at 9am on a sunny day in the woods because I hit some black ice going the speed limit and spun out but saved it by remaining in control of the car after i spun around.

I just have to add that 300hp + rear wheel drive + unexperienced drive = certain crash. My brother in law bought an 04 Sti like mine when they came out. I had just bought mine, and persuaded him to go with it and not the 350Z he wanted (i live in wisconsin so we have snowy winters). Nevertheless, he managed to crash it about 4 months after getting it into a divider wall on an onramp when he step on it on a slippery road. More than 15k damage and it was not totaled. Took about 3 months to fix. After about another 6 months, he was racing on a public road and managed to crash it again and this time totaled. So, I would suggest if you are 16 and planning on getting anything with a powerful motor, do yourself a favor and go to a high-performance driving class or training. It will pay off in the end. Otherwise buy a civic or something similar until you get more experience.

people will do what they wanna do. yes, there will be young drivers with "fast" cars who manage just fine. there will also be those who crash, possibly causing harm to themselves and others? which one will your kid be? no way to tell. even a "responsible" high schooler can make one bad decision in their auto, due to adrenaline/inexperience or just sheer bad luck.

btw high school is a total joke, its not hard to have a 3.5+ if you try just a little. anyone that I knew in high school with sub 3.0 didn't care and easily couldve done better.

PS. i dont know your parents financial situation or what kinda trust fund you may have setup, but if you parents bought you a $20k car for college instead of a $40k car and put the $20k difference into an investment account, in 30 years when you are 47, on average that account with be worth ~$654k. just something to think about.

ps. if you park your car in campus lots, be prepared for people who DON'T care about their cars to inflict damage upon yours.
