Can someone please explain the difference between diverter valves and a blow off valve? Does the diverter valve still make the blow off valve noise?

AFAIK the diverter valve is just american-speak for our recirculating blow off valves. The best of both worlds is something like the Go Fast Bits StealthFX I used to have on my rexy, that allowed you to fully adjust from 100% recirc to 100% vent to atmo or anywhere in between.

they both do the same thing, only the diverter valve recirculates the air while the blow off just dumps it to the atmosphere. since our cars use MAP it doesnt matter which one you use, but in the bimmer world its kinda considered a sin, since its looked at like a JDM thing and thought of as ricey

Ok thanks for clearing that up for me. The laws in Australia make it illegal to dump into the atmosphere so based on what you've told me I assume the diverter valve would be legal.

Also, will the diverter valves still make the same noise as the blow off valve? On some cars I actually think the blow off valve sound is quite nice.

Unfortunately the one you speak of does not fit our cars. I have already emailed them about this.

im not too familiar w/ diverter valves since ive always been a JDM whore but i would think it wouldnt, but i can be totally wrong bout this

sux bout the forge not fitting our cars, would seem like the best solution. one mode for fun and the other to pass inspections

Get the Synapse engineering Syncronic kit, seals itself under boost. Another good one that I personally use for my race car is the HKS SSQV, it is also a pull-type valve and will seal under boost.

Active Autowerke Blow Off Valve

Active Autowerke BOV

"Our single BOV sports a huge venturi, designed to handle excess pressure build-up against the turbo compressor impeller blades, pressure at the impeller to stop spinning (a.k.a. Compressor Surge),which can damage the compressor wheel and shaft. With our valve in place, the stock turbos are protected as the boost is raised – you can take HP to the stratosphere, enjoy the spoils of all that performance, and get that cool “whoosh” sound as your machine spits out excess inlet pressure."

I also have the HKS SSQV type BOV..its a pain to install but more boost will only make the seal tighter. I would recommend the stett with tial for most people...but for me i like my HKS.
