Dinan Tune - Keep it?
I am on the verge of getting a 135 with Dinan stage 2 tune already installed (and nothing else). I'd like to add a few mods too it (maybe full bolt-ons at some point, we'll see how it goes).
With that in mind, will it be OK to keep the Dinan tune or will I need something else to get the most out of the mods? And if I should get another tune over Dinan, how do I get rid of it? Can it be resold/is it worth anything? I read about an O2 SES light caused by catless dp's and how other tunes can override that. I assume Dinan will not? Will the BMS DP Fix resolve this? Anything else I should be aware of as a soon to be new 135i owner? Thanks everyone. Last edited by DougiesGoinDeep; 08-19-2014 at 08:09 AM.. |

I'd just keep the Dinan tune and run a JB4 on top of it.. that should work fine.

The dp fix is meant to be used to pass emissions and not to be kept on the car. If u don't want the light u will need a tune that will autoclear the code. So jb4 would do that

I bought my 135i last year with a Dinan s2 tune and I'm currently FBO with exception of an upgraded chargepipe. As long as you use O2 extenders with catless downpipes, you should not throw any codes. I've been running catless without any problems for over 6 months now and even just passed smog. I did not need a JB4 or DP fix to clear anything.
To answer some of your questions, the Dinan is a flash tune installed by the dealer, so therefore it is not worth anything to anybody but the owner of the car. There is no way you can resell it as it is always tied to the Vin of that specific car. You can always try another tune and if you dont like it, you can go back to the dealer to have the Dinan flashed back on. It is recommended to have the car flashed back to stock though prior to running another tune. I'm pretty happy with my S2 (but I also didn't pay the big bucks for it...just lucked out from previous owner), but eventually I'll look to switch to Cobb where I can squeeze more power out of it. |

Why not drive the car first, then see about mods?

Can you tell me more about what is involved with the O2 extenders? Also, are you using the stock mid pipe? |

The O2 extenders plug into the opening on the downpipe that your O2 sensor would normally plug into. You then connect the actual O2 sensor into the extender. These are the ones I used and worked. You can always hit up Leo at Eurotek, he did the work for me and is very helpful. Just tell him Amer referred you.

Just an FYI, I just did emissions in Colorado with JB4 and failed because the emissions place logged the OBDII while the car was on the dyno. JB4 apparently kills the OBDII as soon as you touch the throttle. They also went under the car with mirrors looking for 02 spacers and spent a solid 15 minutes poking around under the hood. Not sure how emissions are in other states, but in Colorado they have caught onto a lot of this stuff. I essentially had to completely return the car to stock before it passed.
