Certainly I have done some sketchy things in my day and cannot be universally commended for my integrity, but I must say that for someone in their 20s (I'm guessing this fact), it's odd - regardless of familial wealth - to spend $7k+ on a trip for someone that you don't know, even if you're insanely attracted to them.

There are two possibilities here: 1) Things are not as they seem and their are unseen ulterior motives at work here - and i agree with the others - get your ticket when he says the arrangements have been made and ask to see verification of reservations made online and so forth and 2) This is one desperate dude that is willing to throw tons of cash at someone just for the possibility of bedding them. That is not the sort of person that you are, in all likelihood, going to end up with a year or two from now. Such a situation places you so far ahead as the alpha-dog that it creates a situation where the inequity (between the two of you) inherent in such an arrangement is not amenable to the creation of a meaningful relationship. I think anyone who would offer such a trip to you has deranged morals and, quite frankly, fuc*ed up priorities.

Nobody here should judge your for considering this 'proposal' - I certainly would have if I were you. I think that while there are some positives here, the negatives (in a potential mid-trip falling out) are significant and have the potential for setting up a nightmarish situation thousands of miles from home.
