Does anyone use Turtle Wax?
I know it sounds funny, because it's one of the "cheaper" waxes out there, but on previous cars I've owned, I've gotten the best glossy feel out of Turtle Wax.
Anyone use Turtle Wax on their 1er or will I be the first?

It made me laugh when I read it. The last time I used that stuff was a couple of decades ago.
I use Zaino on my cars and like the feel and look very much. |

Are you a snob in real life? Or is this just your online persona?

I'm not used to it coming in a bottle. Mine usually come in cylinder jars and is not in liquid form.
You lightly moisten the applicator pad, dab it around in the wax, and then apply a light coat in a circular motion. Wait for the wax to haze, and then buff off with a soft cloth. It should be done panel by panel, and not wax the whole car, then buff off the whole car. If you wax the whole car, and then buff off the whole car, you'll end up with swirls. I know this forum is full of testimonials in favor of Zaino, and I'll admit I'm curious to try it (and probably will), but this is a favorable testimonial for Turtle Wax at $5 for a jar that will probably get you through 5+ wax jobs.

Certainly the original poster took no offense. Perhaps, one could assume the best of others rather than the worst? I laughed because I hadn't used it in two decades so the last time I touched the stuff my age was in the single numerals. |

Must be a new one.
I just get the one in the green jar, comes with a yellow applicator pad and at one point costed me $3 and some change. I think it's now about $5. What's the Turtle Wax Ice?

Here's a new one for you. I went to my local AutoZone, and I asked about Zaino. The guy showed me a product called, "Zymo."
BTW, I am curious about Zaino: is it available in stores, or only online?

I have used this on my previous Porsche and Lexus. It is actually not bad, and it last pretty long. It is an excellent product for the money in my opinion. |

Great, thanks for that reply rcracer_tx.
Honestly, I think that that Turtle Wax in the cylinder jars (I think the wax greenish-blue color), works great and IMO lasts much longer than something like Meguiar's. Also, IMO, Meguiar's isn't very good. I had used it before...still have a bottle of it in my garage, and wasn't impressed by it at all. I believe the Turtle Wax achieved a better shine, a higher gloss feel, and lasted longer.

Not to get into a Turtle Wax bashing thread, but really, while Meguiars and Zaino may not be the best, they tend to not have any oils or fillers, so if you're not satisfied with them, you're just not doing the complete process to thoroughly fix your paint. Turtle Wax and other consumer grade products tend to hide a lot of defects, but they do it with oils and fillers that fade away relatively quickly. A proper, true detailing will remove those defects, and a good top coat will just help to protect the corrected finish from further damage.
If you just want a plain, simple finish, and you don't really want to obsess over detailing, stick to Turtle Wax or a similar consumer product. If you really want to get the last bit of shine, and an amazing amount of durability, then there's a disturbing amount of information you can choose to process. There is a reason I have fifteen or twenty different polishes, seven or eight different polishing pads, two different polishers and enough lights to recreate a WWII air raid movie set, but that's a different post. Carry on. |

I used this turtle carnauba wax on my old RSX and it left a nice enough shine (at least to me back then). The Zymol that you find in stores used to be my wax of choice as I also confused it with Zaino lol (I was in high school and this is like 7 years ago). It left a great shine and it had an awesome touch to it, but like most over the counter waxes, it would last 2 weeks max.
I've tried some over the counter Meguiars waxes as well and they weren't even as good as the Turtle Wax I tried, so you're right in that respect. However, I now use Zaino as well and holy crap the stuff is in a completely different league. Granted Zaino is really a sealant and not really a "wax"; it's far more durable and optically clear than anything you'd find in stores. Sealants will leave you a polymer film over the car so it physically protects the surface from harsh stuff like bird poop and acid rain. Wax will quickly break down with that kind of stuff and is better used over a coat of sealant to increase the depth of the shine. Anyway, you just blew nearly $40k on a car, no harm trying out $20-30 products protecting it (http://www.zainostore.com). Of course there's nothing wrong with just doing with what you're already doing, but you are in the detailing board so you're gonna get lots of criticism for using Turtle .

Believe me, I am no casual car cleaner, and have used many waxes and have a DA with around 20 pads for it.I currently use Poorboy's Natty's paste wax and EX-P Sealant. It does last much longer and have better shine, but it is also about 8x the price. Not exactly in the same enthusiast level.

Very good point, but most people look at initial investment. When I completely detail my car, it probably cost between $10-$20, but the investment in my cabinet of cleaners and accessories cost well over $500.
I completely agree with you on the cost per application, but when you add up the initial investment of a citrus wash, undercarriage wash, regular car wash, Wash mitts, Microfiber towels, a Chamois, a DA, DA pads, clay bars, different levels of polish, trim restorers, tire shines, wheel cleaners, wheel polishes, window cleaners, paint cleaners, paint sealers, waxes, etc for just the exterior, you are talking serious dough. Only hard core car enthusiast are willing to spend that type of money and put the time in to care for their car...Turtle wax is a AIO that works pretty well for the price and is easy for the casual car owner. |
