buyinh icarbon rear diffuser, question...
I plan on picking up the icarbon rear diffuser for my 1er.
I just have one question: should I get the gloss or matte finish? Which finish matches the BMW Perf part? ok, I guess that's two questions. The car is Titanium Silver. Thanks in advance.

Gloss looks better IMO but maybe you should add some voting buttons and see what people think. Plus it depends on what direction you are planning on taking your car.

I honestly dont plan on doing much modding at all. Maybe a JB tune at some point.
If anything, cosmetically I might go with the blacked-out kidney grilles, but I'm still on the fence about that. So, yeah, I think I will go with the gloss finish, I just dont want it to be too glossy...

I am sure you will be happy with the gloss finish. Look at some of the photos and i am sure you won't be disappointed.

Depends what time of the day on you look at them .I have the DRY and prefer it over glossy as i am going for that matte look...Not a big fan of glossy anything except the paint...Also will replacing my Kidney Grills and LP plates in about 2 weeks with DRY CF or as soon as Andy gets them to me LOL.....BMW OEM CF uses DRY....I will post up some pictures next week...the ICarbon Dry Diffuser just came last night and will install it this weekend.
IMO you will be HAPPY with either finish...i just wanted my CF low key. Last edited by IZAGLO; 07-13-2010 at 12:53 PM.. |

hmm, ok then I am still a little torn.
If you're sure the matte finish is what matches the BMW Perf part, then I may just go with matte afterall. I also prefer the more subtle look and I dont wat the FC piece to be shinyer than the paint in the sunlight... In the picture above, the gloss doesnt look too shiny, but in some of the other pictures on this site the gloss looks really glossy... Yeah, I'm thinking matte might work better for my tastes, especially if it matches the finish on the OEM carbon part.

I went and put the ICarbon Dry Diffuser up against my Red Sedonna tonight and it looks perfect. Actually it looks almost identical to the diffuser on the post above by Miro's in sheen... but lighting is different....put Miro's in the sun and it will change...The DRY is not dull, as it does have a little sheen to it, it's just right in all lighting........but on another thread there is a Red Sedonna with the Wet ICarbon Diffuser on it and and it looks so glossy, almost too much IMO as the sheen in sunlight is intense.......Looks are subjective but the DRY for me is the way to go, it's beautiful man and you will not be disappointed...Ask ICarbon for there opinion.....they will whisper DRY

It really does depend on what look you want. I think you'll be happy with an iCarbon diffuser either finish. I got the glossy. To be truthful, when I ordered there's wasn't an option for matte, but I wouldn't have gotten it anyway. I wanted the diffuser to shine like the rest of my 1-er.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty much set on getting the dry (matte) version instead of the glossy. Considering the OEM plastic diffuser is a matte finish, I think it will compliment the look of the car a little better than the glossy piece. I will post up some pics after it's installed.

99.% of members here go GLOSS on the CF....it looks nice...but in the 2x2 CF weave the DRY finish is stealth and not in your face like the WET, does have a minor sheen to it... and will not have the WOW effect looking at it like the WET especially in the sun... but that's what i wanted.. I wanted a integrated look with my car like it came from the factory, and the DRY has that appeal to me.. And the plus side the diffuser will now balance out my BMW FActory Sport Exhaust...Most cars that come from the factoy have a matte finish on there diffusers...otherwise even if it was plastic they would use a gloss finish... Look at any of them they are all low key and not glossy...You will get many opinions on this and actually none of them wrong...as mentioned either way you go you will like it...ICarbon is hot on there 1x1 weave in matte.....i am not, as the 2x2 is what i was looking for. And on my Sedonna Red 135i with the Dry diffuser looks amazing, and cannot wait till my other DRY CF items get here.
Now trunk and hood are a different story on finish,,,,,,i have seen some cars with CF hoods that have looked pretty bad with aging from the sun...so this is another topic for discussion...ICarbons trunk and hood look hot!! |

OK, i'm confused, and am gonna confuse everyone else as a result.
I'm under the impression that BMW OEM performance parts feature a 2x2 weave and a glossy finish. confirm or flame. |

This is correct. I can confirm this because I have the BMW Performance CF spoiler and the iCarbon range in 2x2 gloss finish. Hope this helps

the vendor I have been speaking with told me the dry piece is back-ordered for 2 weeks but the gloss is available now.
I'm hearing conflicting opinions about whether the BMWP piece is gloss or matte... Still probably leaning toward matte (dry) but I guess I got a couple weeks to decide. Sill looking for more pics of dry vs. glossy so please post em up if you got em.
