Flash tunes in Germany…
Which tune to go with?
So… a few weeks ago while I was at Nuerburgring… I stopped in at the guys at DigiTech tuning. The guy there was very friendly and informative. He gave me this print out of his basic chip tune/flash. 360 PS with 500 Nm@1,600 of torque. V-max 280 kph Price: 1,5049 euros! Ouch! But after talking to the guy at DigiTech he did say since my car was so new he could give me a deal. Best price was 1,000 euros installed. IF I just wanted a increased top speed (V-max), that would cost 849 euros! Whats that saying… gotta PAY to play! In talking to the guys at the 1er Forum…. They say that most chips will run about 1K euros. Most go with: Evotech, Digitech, Techtec, Winter. All are top names in the tuning world. Some guys said to go with these guys (TecTech). Which I never have heard of. TecTech… http://www.turboperformance.de/chipt...kw/bmw/1er/781 stage I 365 PS and 510 Nm 900 euros V-max 293 kph stage II 380 PS and 540 Nm 1,200 euros V-max 296 kph UpSolute… http://www.upsolute.com/index.php?op...=4&id_model=13 351 PS and 465 Nm or 343 ft/lbs V-max 285 kph Cost 399 euros There is an Alpina BMW dealer near me in Nuernberg/Schwabach. I might just go over there and see what they offer/have to say. Any thoughts? I am really getting confused on which tune I should go with. ??? Maybe I should stay stock? Dackel |

Yea... I hear you. I am kind of surprised no one has order the individual parts from the 335is for their 135i's yet.
I am still in the reasearch phase for a tune. Not sure which one I will go with. DigiTech does seem like a first rate tuner though. But they are far from my house in Bayern. Dackel |

Btw... how does your speed de-limiter work? What I mean is... can BMW tell that I have exceeded the factory top speed of 250 kph? That is what has been reported here before. |

There's also Doerr Motorsport. I know they sell packages but not sure if they'll only sell the flash.
If you went with the crazy overpriced AC schnitzer package, they change your speedo to 320 Kmp and even then BMW still holds warranty with them -- or it works like a Dinan relationship but I never heard bad stories on the AC side. But I'm only saying this because I don't think the Euro dealerships care or even look if you went over speed-- maybe not as noticeable as it would be over here--anything over 80 is a flag over here. Enjoy whatever tune you go with. |

I know my SA gave me a paper to enroll my car in the US warranty system when I go back there. Did you have any problems with that? Thanks. |

I probably wouldn't go with a tune that didn't have some sort of U.S. dealer support as well if you're taking your car back with you. Upsolute definitely has U.S. dealers, not sure about the others you're looking at.

I don't have a tune but I'm sure they looked for it so do be cautious. The Germans see neck brake speeds all the time because of the autobahn so I don't really think it's of concern to them. But here in the states(generalizing), where can you hit 160Mph legit? If someone says they drag race 1/4's then 125Mph would be tops (keep in mind claiming to be stock). It's not like BMW is going to give you a ticket, so anything up to 155Mph is still your business regardless and BMW will warranty, but I think you get my drift. I had no issues with enrolling in the US warranty system. It took a little while with a few faxes but I got in. What does suck though is that I paid for the Premium pck which came with the Assist feature --yes it's useless in Europe -- but if I want it to work here in the US, I have to pay $200 now to activate it since it didn't get programed in EU. Also, if you ship it with EH Harms, keep an eye on them-- they were a pain in the ass to get my customs paperwork. Let me know if you have any other questions. Sorry fellas, didn't mean anything scary by using 80 and flag. I simply meant it as a contributing factor/indicator towards possible mods/tune on a car here in the states. How big is the ticket for doing 81 in a 65? Everyone knows how easy it is to get a tune and if you show that you consistently speed then chances are...
This doesn't prove anything, it just kind of provides a sign to look for a tune. Example: guy rolls in with his DD that has a drop, exhaust, FMIC, wheels 265 in the rear, boost gauge, track stickers/slips, DCI, BOV, conspicuous removal of meth kit etc etc and shows last speed of ... This is all BS of course. |

You all know the key fob stores a lot of data. One of which data points is an "average weekly driven" - miles and MPG! The dealer can also tell by that how hard you are driving.

custom tune
I just came from having my 2011 135 dyno'd at Peter Schroop in Stuttgart and he said for 1100 euros he'll custom tune my car to put out 380hp...today I was dyno'd at 322 (stock) so that's a nice bump...without flashing or adding anything to the car.

Come to Kaiserslautern and take a ride in my 135i. For the price of your flash tunes you can get a JB3/soon to be JB4 + methanol kit + Bravarian Technic Scan tool. That means you can have WAY more power still be able to clear all the codes and have full warranty. And you will not have to worry about high temperatures heat soak or detonation from using less than race octane gas with your flash tunes. PS that includes the greatest support you'll probably ever deal with even from germany I am amazed at how quickly Mr. Burger responds to my every question.
And as far as exceeding 80mph being a tell tale that you have tunes... are you serious? I broke 120 in my ford taurus station wagon. I think maybe 1% of 135i's haven't seen 80mph+ and that's because they're still on the boat from Germany. A tell tale would be reaching 157 in a car limited to 155 not exceeding the posted speed limit. |

Just realized I never cross referenced which German tune I ended up getting. I went with MS Tuning.de near Stuttgart. I had their tune for some 60K kms and could not be happier with it. No problems - ever with it. And the engine just rips!
My tune cost under 1,000 euros, produces 380 PS and 520Nm, open V-max. 1Bar pressure or 14.5 psi of boost. Fastest I have seen on my GPS is 285 kph. But there is more in the car... I just keep running out of road and nerve. Got my car tuned/flashed in Germany… http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528152

For me I am quite happy with the choice I made. I've driven some 70K kms with not even an ECL or SES code. Thats more than any piggy back tune(er) can say. Dack
