Yep still. Since the car is so new some 1M parts are unavailable locally so they are ex Germany. I have ordered my parts through Getbmwparts.com and even through them there is an ex Germany part of the order.
BTW, the cost to me doing it this way works out to be about half of what I would pay using a local BMW dealer to supply the parts. That's including shipping, customs duties and GST. Since it is all out of my pocket ( can't claim insurance for a track incident ) it is definately worth doing despite adding about 2 weeks to the whole repair process. Oh well - you play you pay. There might be some "slightly" damaged parts up for sale soon. Like for eg' an entire rear 1M muffler with quad pipes which could easily be repaired. Just one end pipe slightly bent and a couple of dimples in the can. Plus the rear valance for it. Again only slightly damaged. |

binning it on the track is about 1000 times cooler than being a tosser and hitting a light pole on the street or something.

The rear exhaust is $1828.95 local. GetBMWparts price is $ 1200 delivered. Hood lining ( replaced because of airbag deployment ) local $1068 vs $470 landed. Tail light $320.16 local vs $166. And on it goes right through a 54 parts list. Pack of rivets is $32 local vs $3.68 US. Yep, some things, especially small seemingly insignificant parts, are nearly 1000% more locally. Many of the damaged parts are more or less okay but I am doing a no expense spared repair back to original condition. So even a slight fault in something will warrant a replacement as far as I am concerned. Should I sell this car at some time I want to pass it on knowing that there will be nothing wrong with it. We all know that dealers make a significant part of their profits from parts supply but their business will suffer in the long run unless they change their pricing policies to compete with overseas suppliers instead of screwing their customers. Apparently even insurance companies are getting in on this by sourcing common parts from OS including the use of non genuine suppliers. Last edited by gazz; 09-26-2011 at 09:59 PM.. |
