I'm leaning towards a performance four season set rather than dedicated winter tires, but if I do it I want slightly wider tires. Does anything know if these sizes will fit?

Current Size (M Sport Package):

Front: 205/50R17
Rear: 225/45R17


Pirelli Pzero Nero 4 Season Upgrade:

Front: 225/50R17 94V
Rear: 245/45ZR17 95W

Any input would be appreciated.

should fit with no issues, depending your rims can fit those fitment

Yes, stock M sport package rims and suspension with wider tires.

Do you actually get snow? If you do, all seasons (especially performance ones) are going to be crap in them.

why not go with winters and summers? Ends up costing you basically the same in the long haul.

I live in Boston. It's a good point about the winters but I hate sacrificing performance for dedicated winters when i'm actually driving on snow maybe 6 to 8 days a year. Boston clears the roads VERY fast.

Will they fit?

I'm not sure about the rim, might be too much rubber for a small rim, but I am no expect.

I'm running the same tire specs (except on hankook vents V12) but my rims are 17x8 Oz Ultraleggeras.

OEM are 17x7 front and 17x7.5 rear

If those tire sizes fit on 17x7 and 17.5 then you should be good to go

Not sure if they will fit. I'm not familiar with 128 wheel and tire sizes.

I'm going on record as saying I think this is a bad idea.

Get performance winters - that will help a bit with your dry driving concerns. Even if there is no snow, the cold will make traction (for any sort of spirited driving) with all seasons not so great.

You talk about sacrificing performance, look at at it this way:

By going with an all season instead of a dedicated summer performance tire you are sacrificing performance in the summer.

And going with an all season instead of a dedicated winter tire you are sacrificing performance in the snow (dangerously so) and even if there is no snow, the cold will somewhat negate the better dry performance you'd get out of an all season vs. a winter.

all season = jack of all trades, master of none. The very definition of compromise/sacrifice.

What do I know? I live in PA, and my 128 is "packed away" Dec-Feb.

For not much money, one can have a beater, like my '07 Focus, with snow tires on all four corners, and be able to get around in all but the very worst weather.

Plus, if I had to deal with large city traffic, just another reason for a beater. My brother lives near DC, and I steadfastly refuse to drive the 1er there.

When exploring winter tire options, I also considered performance all seasons. As mentioned in other posts, all seasons aren't that great in the snow and ice compared to a dedicated winter tire. I decided to go with a 225/45R17 performance winter tire on a dedicated set of winter wheels w/TPMS sensors. Seems that performance winter tires are the middle ground between all seasons and studless ice/snow tires. All indications suggest they will fit with absolutely no issues... I'll find out for sure in about a month.

I agree with the recommendation for getting dedicated winters. I'm not that familiar with Boston whether but in Chicago it's a no brainier. I put my snows on my audi last week. This weekend it's my three series getting them. My one series gets the pleasure of sitting in the garage during the winter.

Just go square with 225/45-17s all around... The 7" front wheels (7.5" in the back, FYI) should handle the 225/45s with no problem.

That's exactly what i've decided to do.

(4) Blizzak LM-25 RFT's 225/45R17

This keeps everything V rated as well.

I upgraded the wheels/tires on my wife's 2011 128i M-Sport convertible from 17" to 18" - specifically 18x8 with 225-40 in front and 18x9 with 255-35 in the rear. Really helps the handling and ride, and the 18" tires are non-runflat (we keep an M-Mobility kit in the trunk).

1. Did you have to make any adjustments to avoid rubbing in either front or rear?

2. Those look like gunmetal cs7s?

3. Is the car lowered at all?

bmw1racer...I have the same set-up. 128i, M Sport, staggered wheels/tires. So, you think I'll be okay putting 225 winters all around on my original style 207 rims?

It should be okay... If you check the manufacturer's specs of the tires you're looking at, it'll say what range of wheel widths that the tire can accommodate safely.

No adjustments necessary at all - these are the same sizes as the 135i uses. The color is "Sport Titanium", which is similar to gunmetal. The car is not lowered - it's standard M-Sport suspension.

If anyone is interested, I have the original 17" M-Sport dual-spoke wheels and original Goodyear runflat tires (205 F, 225 R) with only 3K miles on them for sale. PM me if interested.
