May be I am just inexperience, but the car can oversteer if you trail brake into the corner too fast. Silly me felt the back coming out and and my natural instinct gave it more brake - well big mistake. It pushes when entry is too fast, and snaps when you give it too much on exit.

I guess that happens to every car...
your right about it being nervous at the limit, i highly recommend slicks or semi slicks on wide 18's, gives you so much more confidence and speed, understeer is non existent, there is so much grip you can keep it in mdm mode

but that's the point about the 1M, taking it to the limit until it snaps out and having the thrill of managing it. most peeps get embarrassed when they go 360 on the track but I wouldn't with the M cos it's a better car than most of us drivers.. no matter how many track days we have been. chase thrills rather than grip or time... that's my view anyway.

I can see another No coming along.

A set of R spec tyres, a GT3 killer it don't make.

OT but the only 997 worth considering IMO is the GT3RS 4.0

I am already on Trofeo Rs. Once I have the suspension sorted, then it will be in 996s GT3s territory.

I went to Bimmerfest East last weekend. I could not even begin to count how many M3s I saw, each one attempting to be different in some way or the other, but all of them essentially failing. The 1M is inherently different, motley, and it represents what we've wanted out of BMW for a while now. I saw several 1Ms, some of them bastardized with ridiculous plasti-dip, wrap jobs, etc..., but all of them standing out as a sort of enthusiastic beacon in the corn field of M3s and wannabe M3s. So you have one of the limited number that were produced, and you want to get rid of it to join the masses of enthusiast motoring? HUH?! And this is not even to mention the reported driving characteristic differences between the cars. Though those may be personal, what could the M3 truly provide on the street over and above your 1M? I know interior layout is another personal opinion, but the E9x interior feels much too vast and blah compared to the E82.

I don't know, I think owning a 1M is a cool prospect that even goes beyond the car itself. Maybe I'm just down on the E9x M3 because I've never loved its looks or its interior compared to the E46 M.

What I know is that when this M4 comes out, the M3 will be yesterday's performance benchmark. Yes, a prospective M2 could do this to the 1M, but it will always be the first 1M ever made; it will always be limited; and it will be the beginning of a shoe-horned-in performance segment created by BMW moving everything else up-market. Simply, it's for us!

But you have to drive what you want. Those are the reasons I wanted a 1M and also the reasons I didn't get one (I have room physically and budget-wise for one car, and I'll be damned if I'm going to abuse a 1M daily).

Hahaha I'll show you how fast a prestine 996.2 GT3 is when you come to Melbourne next time!

Kamal has one too, although I'm not sure if he has the Mk1 or Mk2.

Doesnt your your car make about 280kw atw. I think 996,s are about that at the crank.

996 times shouldn't be a prob now.

If I owned a 1M i wouldn't trade it for a M3, as it would make me cry when a 1M passed me on the track.

so yeah, a fair bit less.
