Chroming Rims

I bought my first BMW on Tuesday. A used 128i from a dealer. It's was a loaner and in excellent shape except for the rims (scratches, but no dents). The dealer will chrome them for 700 dollars including loaner wheels. Has anyone else had this done? Is it a reasonable price and will the chrome rims compliment the 128 or make it look unappealing? Thanks, Scott.

You probably won't find many fans of chrome wheels on this forum. Most everyone seems to have black wheels. I still like chrome, but I grew up in the 80's.

Furthermore, the chroming will add about 4lbs of weight per wheel to wheels that are already too heavy.

If you want, get them fixed ( scratches removed, repainted) or polished (sheds some weight), or just leave them to become your motorsports or winter rims later on...

Thanks for steering me in the right direction. I'll keep them as-is and maybe get them repainted down the road.

Glad we all could save you from this.

Find out from the dealer who they use to fix the blemishes, scratches, and curb rash on the wheels of their CPO/demo/preowner cars, then work directly with him/her (dealers almost always farm this stuff out to a local shop or "mobile" repairman). A good touch up guy can make curb rash and scatches disappear overnight; usually for a good deal.

Dude asks if it's a good price and everyone does everything but answer it while adding their opinions on what to do instead. BMW 1series forums become more and more like VW forums as the days go on...

He also asked if we thought it would look appealing. I think that is where the majority of these comments come from; from that it can be insinuated that any price is too much for that.

I loved the old Cragar SS wheels on my old Falcon. For me the two are not a match.
