1/4 mile times (stock)
Has anyone taken their stock 135i down the 1/4? I've had a look on here but it seems only people with JB3's etc have done so.
I took mine down last night and managed a consistent 13.6 with a best of 13.601. 60' 2.19 330' 5.804 660' 8.831 1000' 110.394 trap time 13.601 trap speed 164km/h temp 26.4c humidity 1019hpa The car in a 2009 model, manual, 22kkms on the clock and with the original runflats. so bone stock. This is the same trap speed as my R32 gts-t use to get but I could only manage to get a 14.4 out of it. Different setup though. These were all with DTC etc off, having DTC on gives too much interference. Also, does anyone know what BMW put down on paper for these things stock?

Ok here is his time:
Best time of the Night: R/T - .072 60' - 2.059 330 - 5.660 1/8 - 8.629 MPH - 82.56 1000 -11.152 1/4 - 13.302 MPH - 103.19 It was 13.3. Manual. He said was very cold which would have helped, but so cold that there was some moisture on track which made traction a problem. Also, he made most of his runs around 13.5-13.6 but apparently did a burnout on the run of 13.3 |

I notice that the stock car is quite strong low down up to 330" maybe 1/8 mile but after that the urgency wanes. For example my dms tuned vert by 330" was at 5.64s compared to 5.66s above but by 1/4 mile my numbers were 12.95s and 179.3km/hr.
This supports the stats ie peak power at 5800rpm. The turbos come on strong low down but runs out of puff relatively early. Having a tune fixes this problem. |

I'm taking mine to WSID for the first time this Wednesday night. I'll post the results when I have them.

Joe - I'll be arriving at about 6:45pm ish and staying until I get bored. Would be good to catch up. Be aware that WSID will charge you $20 to spectate. Better to pay the $50 and have a go on the strip. Bring a helmet and long pants/shirt, and enclosed shoes.

Hmmm, well that was six hours of my life gone that I wish I could have back.
Let's just say that I've chalked off one of those "I wonder what it'd be like" ideas, and I definitely won't be trying it again. First of all, I arrived late at 6:50pm. The price you pay for working until 5:30pm and then having to drive from Port Kembla to Eastern Creek. Such is life. But that's only 50 minutes late - surely it won't make much difference? My first time at the drag strip, so after queuing to get through the front gate, queuing to enter my paperwork, queuing to enter my paperwork AGAIN with my helmet this time (that wasn't mentioned in the "instructions sheet"), queuing to pass scrutineering, queuing to pass scrutineering AGAIN after realising I was in the wrong queue, queuing to have my first run, getting to the front of the queue only to realise that the one guy in front of me already had his THIRD run of the night so I had to wait for everyone else to have another run. I finally got my first run at 8:44pm, when everyone else was starting their fourth run. I was in the first pair of my starting lane, and I had no idea where exactly the staging light markers were so I just stumbled my way through. The launch went OK except I forgot to disable the DSC: R/T 0.633s 60' 2.425s 330' 6.176s 1/8 9.248s @ 129.42km/hr 1/4 14.014 @ 166.98km/hr Based on the times posted in this thread, I felt that this wasn't too bad for a first ever attempt. Surely I'd get better on my next run. Joined the queue again, and was in the first pair again for my second run at 9:36pm. This time I remembered to disable the DSC and run in DTC mode (not fully off). But I moved too far into the staging lights so the first one turned off. What does that mean? Too late now, the tree is dropping ... sh!t ... focus on the launch: R/T 0.669s 60' 2.487s 330' 6.276s 1/8 9.358 @ 128.61km/hr 1/4 14.141 @ 166.54km/hr It was an aweful run, too much wheelspin in 1st, and I hit the limiter on at least two gear changes. With a 45-50 minute wait between runs and a 10pm closing time, there was no chance for a third run so I left in disgust. Got home at 11:30pm and was asleep by midnight. I didn't even get to talk with anyone on the night. I saw one mate briefly but there was no way I could join the queue with him (that's considered queue-jumping and you get kicked out for it), and we had to stay with our cars in the queue. So I just sat there twiddling my thumbs for hour upon hour. Christ it was boring. Some people were saying that $20 was too much to pay for spectating. That was a bargain. At least you'd have gotten to watch lots of action. I paid $50 for less than 30 seconds of entertainment. I won't be doing that again.

Thats a shame mate..gets pretty frantic there at EC on these nights..
WELL lets just say I wish I could have taken back the last 6 hrs aswel.. Spent yesterday arvo from 4.30pm till about 8pm at Bankstown hospital Emergence department after accidently swallowing a 18mm drawing pin (had it in my lips while I was pinning up a display, then tried to stop myself from sneezing and inhaled the pin)..Short story, the pin got jammed in my larynx on the way down before lodging in my small bowel..(have to go back this arvo for further xrays).. THEN on the way home from the hospital, while my wife was stopped on Centennary Drive Homebush at a red light some ##### runs up the ass of our work car..Shheeesh..(Not the 1er thank god) SO obviously, I didnt get to EC to witness your unhappy performance.. |

Bugger. Did you warm up your tyres by doing a "burnout" before each run? Did you avoid getting water on your tyres in the "burnout" area or carry your burnout right through this to dry them out? It's hard NOT to spin your wheels in first gear in a manual oner
Hope you're OK Zuzu. |

Sorry to hear about your incidents Joe. That's gotta hurt! It'd almost be funny if it happened to someone else!
As for my woeful drag strip experience, I didn't bother with a burn-out since I value the longevity of my tyres more than it was worth. I had no idea what that stuff was that they were spraying on the burn-out area. It's water is it? Well I drove straight through it.

Alot of it comes down to launch which is pretty difficult to get consistant. I also didn't do a burnout and drove through the water.
I took off the difference between that 13.3 run above and my 13.6 run at the 60ft mark and I was then 0.15 off that time. At the end of the 1/4 I changed into 4th gear every single time which had me thinking maybe I should have kept it in 3rd as changing gear takes some time and could have resulted in that 0.15 difference. There you go auto boys, you can have your win this time It would have also been nicer for the temp to be under 20 degree's as that could have made a slight difference too. I plan to go back possibly next month when its cooler and see how I go again. Sorry to hear you only managed 3 runs, in perth we had about 100 cars that night so it wasn't too busy so I managed to pull about 15-20 runs. Once the burnout comp finished around 9:30 or so it died and I was able to do a run and jump straight back onto the strip again
