how would you remove this?
Was giving the car a well deserved wash today and came across a little mark on the passenger door.
Looks like someone with a blue car has opened their door into mine and left some of their paint! Anyway, its not that bad or big (no dent as such), but it appears to have taken away the clear coat and maybe more. So how do you guys cover this up? do you have to remove the blue paint first (if so then how?) and then just use some touch up? Or could i just touch up over it. Im not keen on getting it professionally done as its quite minor. Also noticed that my rear 3rd brake light has also bitten the dust and decided to crack... anyone know if they are still replacing them.... out of warranty? will give the eucalyptus oil and polish/swirl remover a shot tomorrow.
if its blue ink they must have hit the door pretty hard with a pen! - you can feel the groove where my paint has been removed. |

Usually, a bug/tar remover will do the trick . Just remember to rewax afterwards.
If that doesn't work, it should come out with a final stage polish or the latest nano polish with a finishing pad. I recommend GTechniq P1 - you can hand polish it to a very, very good result. Remember to wax after!

Make sure you wax all the panels that you touched with morning fresh as the wax would be stripped.

Check your records... IF yours was ever replaced(under warranty)... there is still a 2 year parts warranty on it, even if the car is out of warranty now.

Not my area of expertise mate! I've got lots of advice for those who want to know how to ignore birdshit on their roof for 3 months but not sure that's needed in this case.
Good to see you sharing your knowledge. Any detailing experts go any advice for the OP?

Kenny,
Here are the best steps to completely remove it: 1. First give the area a wash (obviously he's done that). 2. Clay that portion - if you're on a budget, go buy a Meguiars clay and lube kit from your local auto shop. 3. Still on budget, also buy an Autoglym polish from your local auto shop just to polish and rejuvinate that area. I would recommend Autoglym Rejuvinator (budget but effective product). Use microfibre cloths to work into the paintwork. 4. Simply go over the area with a basic wax, like Meguiars, etc. Hope this helps mate. There are other methods, but you don't want to be too harsh and this is the PROPER & SAFEST way to go about it. Most of that would come out with several passes of a quality clay bar, just have to lube it well. And even YOU can do that, Kenny |

Excellent, thanks Raj. There is a lot to know and I am always worried if I try to correct something myself I might end up buggering it .. and making the problem worse.
