Question Does the 135i have Daytime Running Lamps?

I don't know if I ever used this feature when I had my 135i but the other day I saw another one and its corona rings were very bright. I didnt know the 135i had an option to activate the DRLs...I always just used the parkers via the light switch ???

My angel eyes were never always on unless I manually switched on the parkers, but they were dimmer than the DRL function I seen on other cars.

So I guess this must have been an option I needed to be programmed in because I didnt have idrive to access the feature?

This DRL option was set by the BMW rep when I picked up my car in Munich, she asked which I preferred, on or off. You should be able to set it either way with the OBC.

Ah I see. So am I right in saying that if you have the DRL option enabled, as soon as you turn on the car the DRLs will come on?

Yes, that's my experience, but I usually leave my headlight setting at "Auto".

The auto headlight setting and drl setting are two separate things. Use the OBC to turn the angel eyes on and off. Autoheadlights switches on the headlights at dusk or in tunnels and garages. It also enable then adaptive feature.

If you have iDrive, it is a setting that you can switch on or off. If not, I guess you can just head into your dealer and ask them to turn the setting on for you.

The DRL function is a lot brighter than the parkers, since the DRLs are designed to operate in full daylight. Also, when you use your parkers, all the interior dash lighting would come on as well, while the DRLs only illuminate the angel eyes (on the brightest setting) and the rear LEDs.

If you don't have iDrive you just use the OBC controls to select the options instead.

What the others said - you can set the angel eyes to be either on all the time or only on when the headlights are on.

My dealer recommended that they not be left on during the day as they burn out relatively quickly and are expensive to replace.

Taipan can I ask if you were given a time frame on what "relatively quickly" means (and compared to what)?

I'm curious as to what sort of life I would expect from the lamps.

For the added safety and visibility that bright yellow lights provide for my Space Grey car, I think it's a fair tradeoff.

Plus, they are just H8 Halogen globes. NOT expensive to replace at all.

Haven't had any personal experience with their longevity (or otherwise) or their cost of replacement since the dealer told me about them and asked me whether I wanted them on or off when I took delivery of the car. I can definitely see the benefits of the additional visibility though.

Poppycock. I have had mine on for 2 years (not solid, obviously - 25000km) and no issue.

As for replacement price, buy a set of aftermarket ones, I still have the stocks to go back in if I want to. I went the old 'whiter' version ones from someone on the forums, can't remember how much but wasn't 'expensive', even 2 years ago when they were new.

I don't much like them - a bit poncey in my view, but to each their own. No need for dealer visit, very simple to adjust by referring to vehicle handbook thus:

I quite like the DRLs - especially in the wife's LCI X5. They are so bright that once seen in one's rearview mirror the obvious message is "Get out of the ****ing way!"

Hi,

Bringing this thread back from the dead. I recently traded in my 335i for a 2008 135i with M-sport package (only option the car has). Do the DRL only come on cars equipped with the premium package? Or a another package? The car has xenons and angel lights just like all 135i's, but I don't see the option of activating the DRL on/off thru the OBC controls. So I assume this car doen't have that option. Am I correct on this?

You are better of posting this in the US forum, as the Oz cars standard packaging differs from the US.

If your car has xenons and angel eyes, it will have DRL function.

Weird cus I can't find a way to turn them on, through the console. I will post this in the US forum, maybe its different for USA cars.
Edit: Finally figured it out. Thanks! It was much easier having an iDrive.
