someone explain me.
Ken Block's 2.0 liter 4 pot Fiesta WRC car is putting out 650 HP (de-tuned from 850HP).
How ? What do you do to make a 4pot 2L engine scream like that with some form of reliability ? I was shocked at 1st when I learned it was 4pot...

ford fiesta s2000 are part of the wrc junior league. he drives a ford focus rs wrc putting out 300 hp. the car of course is heavily modified for rally races. the power figures you quoted are more in line with 80's gruppe B racers. back then they were allowed to swap engines out after a race. todays F1 cars are 1.8 liter v8 putting out near 900 hp and if I am not mistaking they have 4 engines for the entire season.

You're talking about a purpose built race motor with seriously beefed up internals to handle major boost, which yields serious hp. Even though it's a 4 cyl, it's putting out approx 4x the boost level of a 135i!

must have missed my response and no it doesn't have 4x the boost. power range is 300-340 hp on wrc cars. major mods are mainly to the suspension and chassis plus making them 4wd

Pixel in Ken blocks latest gymkahana video it says 600hp and 600lbft fiesta. 0-100kph in under 2 seconds
Also f1 engines are 2.4 L V8s pushing ~750hp and they et 8 engines per car per season. The ninth engine yeilds grid penalties |

I have been following all the wrc races and I can assure you he is driving focus rs wrc rally car. he may be driving the fiesta for his gymkhana events and I won't dispute how much power that car makes but I can promise you what he races with has only 300-340 hp. as for the F1 cars you are right about the displacement but horsepower is closer to 900. also F1 is considering going with twin turbo 4 bangers for the future.

not trying to split hair here but I was merely responding to what ken block drives for the wrc events. like what aisthetes said you can get that kind of power when you beef up the engine and dial up the boost. what you get in return for that much stress is reduced life on that power plant. like the saying goes that brighter the candle burns the faster it burns out. hope I didn't come across too obtuse

Thanks. I'm a big F1 fan and I've been trying to get into wrc but I can't find a feed anywhere, only the occasional highlights on the dicovery channel.
Do you know of an Internet feed? |

I am getting it on HDTheater. part of the HD channel line up. I think there is only few more races left. of course Loeb has dominated once again. he is arguably one of the all time greatest. last weeks F1 at monza was pretty dope too! not sure who I want to win. maybe Alonso but that maybe a stretch. it'll probably be either Hamilton or Webber.

I don't want hammy to win. Glad he left the race early. He's a spoiled dick.
Webber a stalwart I'd be excited if he won. But I actually really like kobayashi in the sauber. He's aggressive and talented he's just being let down by the chassis this season. |

dude all I was saying was that the fiesta is not what he races in. true his gymkhana fiesta may have 650 hp but his real race car the focus rs makes 340 hp. furthermore, the fiesta s2000 wrc car is part of the junior wrc league and they sure as hell don't even make 300 hp. but back to your original question on how is it possible to make that kind of power from a 4 banger and the answer is yes it can be done but you shouldn't expect such a stressed engine to last very long.
here is a link for his debut at the mexican wrc event with his focus rs !

650 wheel HP is a lot of power but isn't anything to write home about these days.
