Poor handling after replacing rear tires.
Hi all,
I replaced my rear Conti 5's with new Kuhmo 39's. I also had an alignment done. The car now feels terrible! The rear end doesn't feel solid and planted like it did before. Prior the car with my Coilovers felt like a little go cart, and the rear end was so solid, now the rear feels like a cheap arse Falcon. I've checked pressures on the new tires, we're fine. Any suggestions, or should I take it back to tyre power and get them to look at it? Should replace the Conti's on the front also? Thanks |

How many kms have you done on them? New tyres need a couple hundred kms to run in properly, especially noticable if you only change rears as the front will still grip well.

not like i'm putting 400+hp through them though hah. I thought KU39 were meant to be higher performance/lower wear rating than the KU31's anyway? |

It won't be the aligment Ku 39's are ok nothing great for the same price I would have recommended you the nitto invo, such a better tyre especially in the wet.
I run 12.2 116 mph on the nittos and so far done 13k on the and still heaps of rubber left |

I finally took the car back to the guys at Tyerpower North Melbourne.
They changed the toe on the front I think, to be less aggressive (back to stock). This made all the difference! Sure it turned in a little quicker before, but it was unsettling the rear end way too much. A big shout out to the guys at TyerPower North Melbourne. Very helpful, easy to deal with and nice guys. Strongly recommend them!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers |

New tires come with a Teflon like coating to make pulling them out of the mould easy. It takes a couple hundred km for this slick coating to wear off.

The tyres will need approx 300 kms to scuff in and remove the slippery outer layer from the manufacturing process. Also kumhos are arguably not as high grip/ quality as contis.

That's a sweeping statement that is unfortunately incorrect. My JCW GP comes with Kumhos and no one has found a replacement that is better for turn in and grip. Too bad they only last 3000-5000km hard driving and are almost impossible to find.
