UK delivery question

Hi,

For those of you that have had a BMW delivered to the UK.
Do you know how cars are shipped from the factor to the UK. How long does this usually take? My car finished production last Friday, and I am hoping to pick it up from the dealer on 1 Sep.

Regards
Mark

Your dealer can give to an almost exact date at this stage of when your car will arrive at their dealership. Call your salesperson and ask.

Cars made in Germany are shipped from Cuxhaven via car ferry, across the North Sea, to the BMW preparation centre at Immingham. After inspection, they are transported by road to the dealerships. Some cars may also port via Harwich and I believe they are transported by road to the prep-centre at Immingham.

Hope this helps.

They also most probably go from the factory to the port via train

The dealer has said it will be there by 1 Sep. Just interested where it went. Thanks for the info.

Its normally three weeks from production to UK customer delivery. Most UK dealer will quote four week though.

The original computer screen stated production week 33, and delivery week 35.

Looks to be on track. The car is now in the UK and being transported from Immigham Docks, due to arrive at Thorne vehicle distribution centre (just outside Doncaster) this morning.

I keep emailing the dealer. I feel a bit guilty but they really should give us the ability to track our cars as in the States.

I was wondering if we could do this our selves somehow? Some of the shipping companies have public websites for tracking - P&O does! We just need the appropriated number to track. Can you post you cars trail, including shipment numbers and details of the ship etc? It must be a set process we could repeat.

Car arrived at the dealer last night, so it took a week from leaving the factory. Will collect tomorrow (1st September).
I will post pics as soon as I can.

I share your frustration - the onus is on the customer to keep chasing. UK dealers don't seem to be at all proactive in keeping customers informed and you feel like your being awkward if you keep asking.

For me it sort of takes some of the shine off buying a new car.

I'd love to run a BMW dealership. Although I wouldn't enjoy the pay cut, I'd love to really sort them out (and I'd like trying out different cars every day!!)
