I just wiped down my tyres for the 2nd and LAST TIME with an old sock
And for some reason at one point a whole bunch of it got airborn and i inhaled it, followed with an asthma attack and total s*** feeling in the lungs as though I just smoked a packet of cigarettes

Armor All makes a surprisingly good brake dust repellent spray that you can buy at WalMart. If applied right, the coat lasts pretty long, keeping your wheels pretty clean for about 4 to 6 weeks (no need to wipe/clean wheels ). Important tip: be very liberal when spraying it onto your wheels and wait at least an hour (the longer, the better) before driving. The product works best after it completely dries and bonds to the wheel.

Tyre Cleaning

For any type of protection to work efficiently on rubber it must be able to adhere to the surface. First remove any brake dust, blooming, road tar, grease and grime, silicone and oxidized rubber from the surface to properly clean it. The key to tyre dressing durability is deep cleaning the tyre, once clean you should be able to take an old white dry terry towel and rub the tyre surface, it should be almost pristine. A tyre cleaner needs to be strong enough to tackle a heavy build-up of tyre dressings and road grime, but not damage wheel coatings.

A quality citrus-based cleaner (P21S Total Auto Wash) should clean the tyres down to the original rubber surface, this is especially important when you apply a new dressing, as dressings won't adhere to, or create the right shine on dirty rubber or silicone residue. This tyre cleaner is a strong concentrate; spray-and-rinse, without scrubbing, if you are starting on an old, neglected surface, use a fairly stiff tyre brush for the first application and a spray & rinse at least 3-4 times a year

I second this - the Aussie 1Addicts guys have taken on to the ArmorAll Wheel Protectant and works absolute wonders!

Simply wash wheels, wash/clay/wax car, then spray onto wheels. Only thing is you need to make sure the wheels are completely dry before spraying them, and leave for 30-45 minutes to allow the repellant to dry onto them.

Also, when it comes time to actually clean them again, a high-pressure washer will just take all the dirt right off - the repellant acts nearly like a wax coating

Actually i just checked out my wheels today...washed on sunday afternoon..so far it looks good. This is a must for all 1'ers (unless you like the eurowheel look of course)

there is also a $8.99 rebate available on the Armour Saul web site..on this but you have to buy the wheel protector and another product over $3.49...i use there Extreme tire shine product... so i will pick this up next visit and try it...looks good.....especially since i use a leaf blower to get rid of most of the dust on the rims and the car...this should make it work even better...

Let me start by saying that I haven't used an Armorall product in over 15 years but I have to admit that their new wheel spray works fantastic. I applied it a few weeks ago and it's totally amazing how well it repels the brake dust !!!! Two Thumbs Up !!!!!

None that i can tell..i mean what can a little overspray do? I didnt get much at all on rotors or tires.

Ummm maybe when my brakes wearout...

FYI wanted to update...after several days my rims are still clean!!! Works wonders...My method was this: cleaned rims as much as humanly possible...After drying the rims i sprayed very liberally on every part of the rim surface...let dry completely.
