Reacquainted with RFT's

It's been a while since I drove a car with rft's. On my old E92 I switched them out before I picked the car up from the dealer. When I picked up my new 135i vert on Friday I decided not to change them out since its still going to snow at some point this month so I figured I could deal with them for a month or so before ordering new tires. That was a mistake! It's baffling to me how a company that prides themselves on the ultimate driving machine can put such garbage on the four corners of the car. : New tires will be ordered today!

They figure the average BMW buyer doesn't care or can't tell the difference and it's a nice perk for dealers (drive that deflated runcrap right over and we'll replace it for you for only $500-600, unless you need a whole set which we also might have to sell you).

Yup! My third BMW with run flats. Last two BMW’s I had non-run flats within a week on taking possession of the car. I buy wheel, tires and TPMS. When I sell the car I put the nruncraps back on and do well at selling the aftermarket wheel, tires and TPMS package.

It's like a totally different car once you have real tires installed. Michelin PSS!

Except that you give up the tighter handling the run-flats provide, because of the stiffer sidewall and BMW has tuned the suspension for them.

I have used both non-runflats and the OEM Tires.
The non-runflats give a better ride but you lose some sharpness in handling.
Wish I could find a non-runflat that gives the same handling.

Next might be the Michelin PSS or Bridgestone RE11.

Especially since you can't even replace a wheel/tire because they don't give you a key to the lugs!

I was told "drive it over here and we will find out which key you need then order it from Germany - it will take about a week - that will be $45 please."

I bought four new lugs instead. The PSS were installed a few days later.

Oh, and the PSS are awesome! Thanks for the recommendation Dack.
