P3 Guage for the 1M. Do you really need the boost sensor?
Thinking about getting the P3 gauge...do you really need the boost sensor since it is an N54? I thought our engines had one....are the readings just off or something?
Tried searching couldn't find anything. Thanks Colin |

The install of the boost line and tap took me about 10min total to plumb. Very simple. Works well.

There's are different versions of the p3 (for e92 at least) v1 uses boost line to be tapped into the cp, but the newer ones use odb2 I'm pretty sure. FYI odb2 doesn't work for piggyback such as jb4 since the DME thinks it's getting stock boost

V2 of the P3 gauge still requires a vacuum / boost tap for the N54, not for the N55, as that signal is digital (per the P3 instructions).
I still don't see the OP addressing why the tap is an issue...

Where's exactly do you boost tap? Is it on the hose or on the pipe itself?

+1. If anything, should be even more accurate reading it via diverter valve tap.

Try "torque"
You can create virtual guages for anything on the OBDII port with a software product called "torque". There are others. It costs about $30 to be able to do this. You need a device to send the OBDII signals out via bluetooth and the software on your smart phone or tablet. If you want to do it routinely you also need a mount for your phone.
Torque also reads and resets check engine codes. It's a neat little $5 app. I've used it on my bimmer, Suzuki SUV, and Toyota pickup.

I really dont want to mod my 1M. Did it to my 325i, got hooked, and years later the car is a mess...
Anyways it is the principal of the matter, if I already have a boost sensor why cant I use it? I dont see why P3 cant program it to read off of it from the start....If the torque app and the AWRON guage can see boost I dont know why P3 cant... |

It's one simple rubber tube and a three-way T fitting. As noted, it only takes 10min. Ziptie it up and you'll never know that it's there, and it won't wear. Do it right.

IMHO if you're going to take the time to t-tap you should really just get a true analog gauge boost gauge. Sample based digital gauges are known for masking spikes and pressure leaks.
