Unhappy Wrecked 1M photos

Here is the original post. I was not driving, I was out of town when a someone 'borrowed' my car and flipped it on a mountain road. The driver walked away with a bloody nose.

I don't have specifics of how the accident occurred but there were no other vehicles involved and obviously some wreckless driving was to blame. The car was totally stock.

I was able to obtain another basically identical VO from another fantastic 1Addicts forum member. Thank you!

Original thread

Dreadful experience.

In your initial post you called the borrower "a friend". Now you speak more accurately of "someone". I guess the reckless dude is now "(Just) Somebody that I used to know"...

Glad you managed to find another 1M.

Glad you were able to find another similarly equipped 1m. Hopefully, you are able to make this "someone" pay for the cost of replacement.
Btw, I saw this vehicle listed on a auction site before I had seen your post.

Maybe your former 1M (http://www.carfrom.us/_COLLISION_2011_BMW_1M_37191775/) might be eligible as new future project for Glassoman55.

Blue55 - your "friend" was lucky to survive. Just look at that roof. Looks like it hit something roof first after rolling over.

Its nice to hear you found another 1M via 1Addicts.

Then I'm going to have to start a donation page on 1addicts. I'd have to eat Ramen noodles 3 times a day for 15 years to pay for the S65 conversion!

Glad to hear you found another one. Your friend is lucky to be alive. How was dealing with the insurance to find another one?

Insurance was very good to deal with and they covered replacement cost.

I remember reading that he walked away in the previous thread, but now after seeing the pictures, wow! It's nice to know the safety features did their job in a wreck of this caliber.

I imagine you or someone would have to buy the whole car at auction though in order to part it out. Now I'm curious, what is the value of the vehicle after such a wreck? Can anyone attempt to buy it at auction, or do you have to be in the industry like Glassoman55?

Ouch, hurts me down to the bones just looking at these! Injury being contained to a bloody nose speaks to the solid build of these cars.

PS: Photos of roof really make me reconsider going down the route of an aftermarket CF roof...

PS2: Did you buy 1MVO's (now HALOTHANE) car? If so, congrats, seen it in person and great car and a great fellow.

That car BADLY needed new front tires. Could that have been a factor in the friends crash?

Yes I bought his car. It was immaculate and he is a great guy indeed! Personally I would never consider and aftermarket CF roof after seeing what happened.

The factor in the crash was the fact that he obviously drove the car beyond his and the car's limits. The road was completely dry and it was clear. There was no water on the road for treads to evacuate.

Correct. It will be on a vehicle auction site like Copart someplace. Typically one needs a dealer or salvage license to make a purchase. There are some ways to purchase a temporary license but preferential bidding will go to those with established accounts.

As far as value, looks like the engine and perhaps the interior is ok. I would bet the salvage would still sell for about 15k. Typically, 20 percent of actual value is considered a good figure for selling salvage.
