If it's a primarily a street car I would push you even further towards the KW V2/V3's. The spring rates they use are progressive rates, meaning they are very comfortable to drive on the street. The Cross/JIC use linear rates.

Our "track car" is actually one hell of a nice ride for the street with the out of the box KW spring rates. We haven't changed them yet.

My past experience with progressive springs was that they gave a very uneasy feeling on initial turn-in. That may have been an application problem, but I've been wary of them regardless. Any sense of that with the V2/3s?

Turn in is excellent on our V3 car. We're running the "stock" KW springs. The suspension tuning we've done has got the car feeling great now. We could tweak some more but right now the car is probably a 9/10 with the setup that's currently on there.

Part of what we've done is run lots of pre-load on our front progressive springs. I don't really have a spring rate to give you since they are progressive, but they are just about perfect for spirited street driving. Just a tiny bit soft for agressive track driving on street tires. On R-comps you would want to bump up those rates even more.

I have the spring curve for the KW 2011. The average rate is 255 lb/in but goes up with more preload. The rear spring is 570 lb/in. The car weight balance is 63% biased to the front with stock bars and has 3.2 degrees of roll at 0.9 G. Not what I call a racing setup. The turn is good initally because the car warps and in the end over loads the outside front.

FWIW, I am running a 350 lb/in front and 900 lb/in rear spring but not with stock bushings. This means the wheel spring rate are almost the same.

Are the E92 & E82 the same suspension wise?

Yes....and you can throw in the M3 in with to.

The only tuning you should be doing with v3 is getting rid of the springs ASAP.

It's one of the reasons i went with Cross. Apart from that of course is you can choose the spring rates
The clubsports do come with camber plates.

The V3's and lower do not.

Call
The coilover companies are starting to use the number of clicks to equal the shock adjustments. $600 coilovers are starting to be called "32 way" adjustable.

You'll only find 4 adjustments on even the higest of the high end dampers.

1. High speed compression
2. low speed compression
3. high speed rebound
4. low speed rebound

Another data point:

Call was kind enough to let me take his Cross equipped car out for a drive last night, and I came away impressed. I won't say that it rides "better" than stock, since that means different things to different people. I will say that the car feels rock solid, with no "bob and weave" motion. It is the way I think an "M-Tuned" suspension ought to feel. I would have no problem using this setup on my daily driver. The only downside I noted is that the extra stability encourages even more "super-legal" behavior!

Thanks again, Call.

Brian, glad to meet you. I sure hope you can meet up with us sometime over on the Dragon or maybe on your next trip to Road Atlanta.

And, I hope no one else trashed their cars Sunday at RA after hearing what happen to a few M3's playing with the wall on Saturday. Sounds like the 80% guidelines must have been ignored a little with those wet tracks

80%? I felt like I was only doing 20% and still felt out of control. I parked it today. My best ride of the weekend was your One!

I can't wait until some of you guys get to drive a car with Ohlins or Moton's. You'd pass out.

I'll be on Ohlins or AST's in my 135i. If we ever meet I'll let you have a run in the car. I'm not sure if I'm going to run in DS for Solo II or in STU.

I just sold my Evo RS that had Ohlins Flags on some crazy spring rates for STU. It is truely a car capable of winning STU at Nationals. I PAX'd #1 at the DC Pro Solo in it this past June and won STU. I think the 135i with Ohlins, AST's or Motons could do the same.
