135i upgrade pricing?

Since most of us can't seem to get enough of this torturous price speculating, I thought it might be fun to see what everyone thinks the "135i upgrades" are really worth.

Place a dollar amount for each of the following:
-Turbo engine=
-M body kit=
-Sport tuned suspension=
-Six piston front brakes=

I think some of these are going to be very intersting.

no way those brakes are only 500, stop tech 4 piston brakes are 1500, so i'd conservatively mark the six piston bmw ones at 1k.

Wow, they must be some really nice calipers for $500 a pop!

The brake system was designed by Brembo. Ichiban's pricing is, if anything, very conservative. A Brembo 4-piston (not 6-piston) setup for an S2000 would run $2,500 from the Tire Rack. Most of that cost is in the calipers.

What exactly are we supposed to glean from a price comparison of low-volume aftermarket upgrade parts and BMW's cost for similar parts (they aren't the same) at high volume? Not much, I'm afraid. This has been discussed ad nauseum, but a "sport-tuned" suspension costs BMW virtually nothing vs. a normal setup. The parts are already in the bin. The N54, while pricier to manufacture, is already tooled for and tuned. No great investment there, either. BMW isn't paying the same price that we would for Brembos, etc, etc. Sorry, but it's apples-to-oranges on this one.

If anything, the 1-series introduction will be a great study in the effectiveness of marketing hype. Who knows, maybe BMW really does know what they're doing...

They're not? You mean they don't order from the Tire Rack like we do?

Exactly my point!

I think we all need to take a look at these "Brembo brakes" when the actual cars get into the hands of the auto journalists, & real customers.

While I'm sure Brembo was involved in their development, let's just not make the huge leap to assuming that these are the same brakes that you get when you order a big brake kit from Brembo. I'm pretty sure they are not.

Brembo manufactures original equipment brake calipers & rotors for quite a few car companies, & you would never know the difference from looking at them.

The Brembo's on my Evo seem to do a pretty good job. :iono:

If you are talking about the 135's price then you have to take your guesstimates on pricing of the "goodies", MINUS what the standard pieces cost BMW. The body kit probably costs exactly the same to make for the non-M body kit... they are both plastic, afterall.

The single piston calipers cost money, and the shocks/springs might cost a few dollars more, but not a whole heck of a lot. Remember, they are just changing the valving on the dampers. It's not like we're getting coilovers.

So, the $6300 figure is grossly inflated, unless the standard car came with no bumpers, brakes or suspension. This isn't like aftermarket, where you are replacing existing parts on a car.
