We did DCI vs Stock Airbox, 5 runs a piece, hood down, and took the highest from both with the same smoothing applied. For the lid off stock airbox we left the hood open and did 4 runs.

I kind of agree on the boost target vs load target of the flash tune but if that were 100% true then DCI's wouldn't be needed at all for flash load target cars and subsequently i wouldn't see any gains from my Berk catback correct? I might be missing something there though.

With that said I can't argue that there could be a flaw in my testing or logic. This isn't my day job I'm just posting my observations. When the car is moving i bet it is a different story with air flowing into the engine bay compared to a big fan.

I will be putting the DCI's back on when it gets back under 90 degrees outside in the fall and for $95 you can't beat that deal.

Mike, do you know the surface area difference between the stock air filter and the 2 cones? It would also be interesting as well to measure the velocity of the air flow after the filters comparing dci vs stock setups?

Thanks Mike!

No dyno to confirm (but dyno's are BS for intake systems anyway). For DD and spirited driving it may be a entirely different scenerio.
This is the same impression I got on the track, especially the consistency part. But in day to day I felt I lost something going back to stock intake/filter.

Have yet to get my AFE stage 2 on the track. Hoping it strikes a good medium between the two set ups.

i miss the sound of dci more than anything as lame as that sounds... the butt dyno feels no difference, hell i cant even feel the power loss when my ac is on max cool...

if someone wants to send me a "free" afe system, hint hint, i will do another dyno comparison and post it up!

And the stock airbox with the top off wouldn't heat soak?

I just bought a DCI a week or so ago and the only thing that I can compare it to is, Snake Oil.

I only felt a loss in power. I am running Cobb Stage 2, Helix FMIC, AA Downpipes and Drop in Filter.

Mr.5 DIY intake IMHO is the best intake you can have on this car, that's if you don't mind cutting into your stock box but I'll also say that the differences between DCI and Mr.5 type intake are mostly if anything sound/noise related...

This is why I value this sort of indepedant dyno testing. The operative word being independant. A direct cold air source is important - that is why BMW have invested large sums of money and time in developing such a system for the N54!
