Tuning suggestions for N55 low end torque increase only
I have a 2013 135i MT N55, I'm looking for the best way to increase the low end torque. That is really my only interest, I don't track/race the car or care about top end speed. I just want the easiest way to get more torque at low rpms. I don't want to decrease the reliability etc.
I looked at what it takes to remove ECU for a one time bench update required for MHD and that is way more involved than I care to do. JB4 install not a problem. It seems with the Cobb install you need this unit plugged into the OBDII port all the time and that does not appeal to me either, if I'm correct on that. Any suggestions / comparisons would be much appreciated! |

JB4 would work, as would MHD. Honestly, if you don't intend on modifying this car in any other way, and/or you care about resale value, I'd suggest the Dinan S2 tune. I have MHD on mine and love it, but my father has the Dinan tune on his E88 and it feels great, even if it doesn't pull as hard as my car does. It has notably more low-end torque, but boost tapers to pretty much stock levels above 5500rpm. Totally set it and forget it.

+1 to what velociti said. I'm running the Dinan S2 tune as I didn't want to bother with things, and I'm extremely happy with it.
I have no personal experience with JB4 or MHD, but I would probably suggest the latter if you were to go that route. I have had multiple friends start with JB4 only to end up with MHD a short time later. Competition is always changing things though. JB4 used to be essentially the best and only player in the game for a while. |

JB4 won't have stock-like smoothness. I pivoted to MHD precisely because I wanted a stock-like feel and throttle response, and the JB4 piggyback just couldn't deliver that. As much as I like MHD and its flexibility, if I had to do it all over again (especially with a 12+ car that can't be port-flashed), I'd just go the Dinan route. You won't be breaking traction quite like you would with MHD, but there's substantial midrange shove and it'll drive like stock.

Jb4 and use map 6 (set boost to stock variable on mid to high RPM).

You can rule out using Cobb for your 2013.

Stock torque is not enough? What are you trying to do? Pull a horse float or something?
Too much torque down low and things will break! |

We have an old Audi S4 Biturbo V6 with a chip in it and I just like the feel of it as I drive it. There is just a sense of more power there in the 2000 to 3000 rpm range, if you want it, not that you are really using it. That is all I'm after. The 135 goes fine if you put your foot in it as the revs spool up. I'm just looking for feel that the power is there as you conservatively run up the gears. |

Had the Dinan S2 tune since 2016 and nothing's broke yet. Honestly, don't think anything's going to break because of the tune except for maybe the stock charge pipe but that's been known to blow even with the stock boost.
The Dinan tune is conservative when compared to some other tunes. Also, they have a stellar reputation when it comes to reliability. Haven't heard of anybody having any problems so far.

I just wish there was somewhere that wasn't the coasts I could get the car properly dyno tuned.
On an NA car I don't mind OTS maps or ETuning, on a turbo car it makes me a bit more nervous for some reason. |

After all the input and reading as much as I can, I think the Dinan is the route for me. I just need to wait for the weather to thaw here in Ohio so I can pull the cover off and make an appt. Thanks all
