From the (little) reading etc that I have done they do run leaner due to direct injection. There are plenty with far more knowledge who will chime in.

You will be safe on either, I've run, Maps 1, 2, 5 & 7 on my car with only intakes, probably not recommended but I've done it, for the last 10,000 miles or so. And yes being Direct injected these thing do run way leaner than normal turbo cars.

I'd go map1, but map 5 is fine too. Best bet would be to log some runs with both maps, and see what they are like.

Please excuse the ignorance, but what exact information does logging provide?

Map 1 and 5 are both safe. I suggest running map 1 as I'm not a fan of the auto-tune map as it's conservatively tuned. Each time you switch from map 5, the auto-tuning memory resets too.

I usually run Map 1 when it rains

All sorts of info, some useful, some not. But I'd just be looking at boost and timing as he has no other mods. You'll be able to tell a) which one is safer and b) which one makes more boost with the fuel you're using.

Then I guess it's up to the user to decide which map to use depending on what they are happy with

Thanks BBK! This logging this has long interested me. Seems like some of the guys are getting a lot more out of their cars by understanding them better.
